So how DID Texas get such a bombastic season from him anyway? Can't all be explained with park factors...can it?

the park certainly helped, but he was still really good. he's shown he can get hot and putu p big numbers. the problem is, most years he doesn't get that hot.

also, iirc milton had a ridiculous babip last season

I do think there is something to the whole "contract year" phenomenon. Not just with Milton, but with tons of other guys as well.

There is not.

The irony of it is that Bradley never said anything that wasn't at least partly true... it was just constantly distorted by the fans and the media.

Yes, poor Milton Bradley is the victim. Everybody is conspiring against him, just like they did in Montreal, Cleveland, LA, Oakland, etc. etc... free Milton Bradley!!!

Wow... more willful distortions.

I never said he handled it well and didn't say things he shouldn't have. I just said that he was telling the truth. But of course, in your bizzaroverse, that was somehow equated with me shedding tears for this fragile ebony god.

Bradley will outplay whoever the Cubs stick in RF next year.

That's not something the emotional people are concerned about. They hated Bradley, and they'll cross the bridge of who plays RF later. I've yet to see one reasonable suggestion from them about how to fix the situation.

Well unless one of us is hired as GM for next season, it's not our problem how to fix the RF situation

You don't know that.

Give me one realistic option to put out there that's likely to outproduce Bradley.

One.

I've been asking for quite a while... haven't seen anybody come up with one.

Why don't u give us one then?

well there you have it folks, none of us are GMs so there's really no point in discussing any of this. shut it down, tim.

I'm pretty sure that his right fielder would be Milton Bradley but I may have missed that.

At this point in time, the best move the Cubs have to make for 2010 is to do everything in their power to get Milton Bradley into therapy. And even if we can't, we'd be better served to spend what little available funds we'll have elsewhere... rather than replacing a player we already have who can produce adequately.

He's a jackass. I don't particularly like him as a person.

But from both baseball and business perspectives, we're best served trying to salvage what's left of his contract.

Exactly.

Even the people that would prefer Bradley remaining here agree that he's a jackass. We get it. He's also a better player than whatever the alternative is, whether that be an in-house option or Chone Figgins.

Pretty much. It's about as far as we can get from an ideal situation, but I'd much rather have him and his baggage and his production than downgrading an already shaky lineup and eating salary with the team seemingly strapped for cash for the forseeable future.

All that said, if Ricketts bumps our payroll to 170 million, I'm fine with eat Bradley's contract and signing Holliday or Bay. The trick is that I want an upgrade... not a more expensive lateral move or downgrade.

At this point, were not going to get a solid player, prospects, or enough salary relief for Bradley. Railroading him and eating the salary with nothing in return is inexcuseable. Right now, if he really has to go for one reason or another, we should explore a trade with a team who has a player they want to rid themselves of, such as Jose Guillen from KC, Magglio Ordonez from Detroit, or someone similar and find a way to accomadate as far as money goes.

What truth? I suppose what he has said is true if you consider a world that revolves around Milton Bradley. Picking nits I guess. Maybe I'm a bit sensitive when it comes to such an emotionally-charged topic as Milton Bradley, but I'm getting a bit tired of Milton Bradley as a victim of (media, racist Cub fans, fill_in_the_blank).

"You understand why they haven't won in 100 years here."

What is true about that statement? The Cubs haven't won because Milton Bradley isn't sufficiently appreciated? That quote was made to Bruce Miles (a much respected Cubs beat reporter who posts here) in the Daily Herald.

Of course, maybe he is misunderstood, maybe others are out to get him. Maybe Derek Lee, Reed Johnson, Ryan Dempster, Aramis Ramirez and Bruce Miles are all wrong and Milton Bradley is wrongfully being discriminated against due to distortions from the fans and media...speaking truth to power and all that, a martyr for honesty.

He's gotta go. Period. He's a big distraction. And you can bet that those comments from his teammates were severely tempered. No one in the clubhouse wants him to stay. The rotten year wasn't all on him, but he hasn't taken a sliver of any blame for anything. I can't stand those people who blame everyone else.

Yet again, the exception proves the rule!

Wasn't he upfront with how he was struggling early in the year? I don't recall him blaming anyone else for his slow start.
