what sucks is that if zook goes you can say bye bye to recruits like benn. you can have well-disciplined talentless players and i'll try my best to get illinois football out of my mind.

Yeah, I know. This team is just so damn difficult to watch under Zook though.

he needs to do nothing but go to people's houses.

Illinois can't hire a young, hungry up and coming guy? Maybe they don't recruit like Zook but they'll recruit well enough and be much better coached.

It should be one of the most attractive programs in the Midwest.

so does Illinois just not have a running game? I can't figure out why they are seemingly not adjusting the game plan to the weather whatsoever

Really? There's always Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, etc. I mean it's not a bad gig, but one of the best in the midwest?

Illinois really does have a hard time in the Midwest right now. Mizzou's done a pretty good job of getting St. Louis back, which Illinois had a stranglehold on for awhile. Most of the big time recruits in the Midwest (assuming they want to stay in the Midwest) are going to look at the programs you mentioned, along with Iowa, Penn State, and others. They're really in a tough spot. If they would've come out last year and followed up their Rose Bowl with 8 or so wins while making a decent bowl, they'd be in a lot better shape recruiting-wise.

Populous state, decent recruiting grounds, no real in state competitor, good college town, big budget, decent tradition? I don't see why they can't get the same kind of success as Wisconsin did under Alvarez if they make the right hire.

True, I guess there is that potential. Another program swooping in is Kansas. Them getting better is one more for us to have to climb over.
