LB Darrel McClover

LB Mike Rivera

Are they announcing them one at a time?

I'm just cutting and pasting from a Bears forum. I honestly don't know the source. But Jason Davis did tweet that he'd gotten cut, so it seems legit.

Chicago Bears running back Kevin Jones will miss the entire season after suffering a torn ligament in his left ankle Thursday night at Soldier Field.

Jones jumped near the sideline on his seventh carry of the game and came down awkwardly on his left ankle. X-rays were negative but an MRI performed this morning showed the damage. He will require surgery and the rehabilitation process is expected to take eight to 10 months.

He re-signed with the Bears in March, getting a $3.5 million, two-year contract to come back as the complement to starter Matt Forte. Jones suffered a torn ACL with the Detroit Lions in 2007.

This means that Forte will now be backed by Garrett Wolfe and Adrian Peterson.

The Bears have released 5th round pick Marcus Freeman, the LB from Ohio State. Looks like they will keep 6 LB's.

Ouch! Well shoot...now they should've kept Rideau.

I think they have to sign a RB. They had to know about Jones before cutting Rideau, right?

Peterson and Wolfe just can't cut it as backups. Forte needs to be able to sit more this year than he did last, or else he isn't going to make it through his rookie contract.

Who's out there for backup running duties? Edgerrin got signed, right?

No idea, but I'd guess they would have to look at guys other teams try to put on practice squads or undrafted free agents. Peterson and Wolfe are a couple carries per game guys, that's fine if Forte is healthy. But if he has to miss a game here or there I think they have to have a 3rd backup to help carry the load. Might as well try and get the best guy you can find now and get him familiarized.

I feel bad for Rideau...he's had good camps the last 2 seasons with the Bears and nothing to show for it. I agree given the situation the Bears were in, he is the one that should have been cut, but I keep feeling like if we gave him a chance, he'd be a good fit for us as a big WR.

Jason Davis would have been nice to have on the team as the backup FB but I can live with him getting cut. Rod Hood is awful and I'm glad he's gone. I'm a bit surprised McClover was cut, I thought I heard Lovie or someone praise him the other day.

Yeah, somebody picked him up. Seattle, I think.

For a 2nd-3rd back you're probably better off getting a young guy who will be waived than a washed up guy on the wrong side of 30.

Ian Johnson from Boise State will be waived by the Vikings tomorrow.

alexander is on the redskins

edit: or not? i swore he signed with them

If you are referring to last season, he was signed and released by the Skins over a 3-4 week period.

for some reason i thought he signed this offseason. thanks for clearing that up.

To me, Peterson was better than Jones anyway. Just find a better replacement for Wolfe and call it good. There will be plenty of guys on teams that are deep at RB that we can pick up once the final cuts start happening.

I was about to say that he was a little back in the mold of Garrett Wolfe...but he's not as small as I thought. He's about the same size as Forte.

Jamal Lewis would be a good sign. Can take pressure off Forte in a big way by taking-on some of the short yardage situations.

Browns?

He's speculating if they cut him.

I agree that Lewis would be the best bet of the backs (that could be cut) for the Bears.
