Positive Outlook on the Remainder of the Season

After the four-game series in LA this weekend, the Cubs have a fairly easy schedule:

Home

WSH 3

NYM 3

HOU 3

CHW 1

CIN 3

MIL 4

PIT 3

AZ 3

Away

NYM 3

PIT 3

STL 3

MIL 3

SF 4

If the Cubs are within 3-4 games of the division and/or wild card when they leave LA, they have a real good shot at having a good month of September based on their schedule. Not to mention, they will have a few games to try to catch up with St. Louis and San Francisco head-to-head, although on the road. I honestly think that if Lilly, Z, Harden and Wells can go the rest of the year without missing starts and ARam stays healthy, this team does have a better shot at a playoff spot than I recently thought.

The bottom line is that there are 4 teams ahead of the Cubs in the wild card race, and all 4 are better than the Cubs.

We can talk about schedule and all that, but this just isn't a very good team. The offense and back end of the bullpen just won't allow them to go on any kind of huge run.

i had optimism heading into tonight too but now it's all gone and i HATE IT

i hate aaron miles for existing

i hate jim hendry for thinking he could replace mark derosa

i hate kevin gregg for being great for the Marlins and an absolute joke for the cubs

i hate injuries

i hate that i still care at this point in the season

i hate that the slave state red birds will again represent the NL Central in post season

i hate that the cardinals turned an ivy league graduate and mlb player into white trash(see the Derosa stache)

i hate that White Sox fans got more joy out of tonight than any win their team had all season

i hate the Cubs fans who try to blame any of this season on Milton Bradley (our best hitter since the break)

i hate Ryan Braun

i hate that next year that we'll all be totally invested again

i hate that we'll be paying soriano $19 million per to hit .230, get drunk on the reg, and chase chubby chicks around Joe's into his 40s

i hate that this rant won't make me feel any better

i hate this F*&^%$ S*&T

Why do people think Kevin Gregg was "great" for the Marlins? He wasn't as good as Michael Wuertz all while pitching in one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball. Also, he lead the majors in blown saves and lost his job at this time last year.

i don't think anybody is blaming the season on bradley, but let's not act like he's been anything other than a big dissapointment this season. the obp is nice, but we didn't pay 30 million for a good obp. .263/.392/.392 and a 103 OPS+ is pretty terrible for a corner outfielder making what he is. he's been a huge bust so far.

also, he hasn't been the cubs best hitter since the break. derrek lee and fukudome have both been better. WAY better actually. like, not even a remotely close comparison.

Cant disagree with the Aaron Miles thing

Ryan Brauns about as irrelevant as the rest of his team at this point.

Next years another year. If we dont go through all the injuries weve dealt with this team can be the favs for the division once again.

2008 Gregg: 3.41 ERA; 1.282 WHIP; 58:37 K:BB

2008 Wuertz: 3.63 ERA; 1.433 WHIP; 30:20 K:BB

Gregg wasn't great last year, but he was better than Wuertz.

Also, Gregg got hurt around this time last year (the same knee injury he struggled with early this year) and that's why he was taken out of the closer's role.

I'd say that those two stat lines are pretty much the same
