Why do people think Kevin Gregg was "great" for the Marlins? He wasn't as good as Michael Wuertz all while pitching in one of the best pitcher's parks in baseball. Also, he lead the majors in blown saves and lost his job at this time last year.

2008 Gregg: 3.41 ERA; 1.282 WHIP; 58:37 K:BB

2008 Wuertz: 3.63 ERA; 1.433 WHIP; 30:20 K:BB

Gregg wasn't great last year, but he was better than Wuertz.

Also, Gregg got hurt around this time last year (the same knee injury he struggled with early this year) and that's why he was taken out of the closer's role.

I'd say that those two stat lines are pretty much the same

ERA and K:BB are similar, but Gregg had a much better WHIP. The stat lines are similar, though.

Please add 2005-07 to your comparison

05-06 have nothing to do with the comparison because he was talking about Gregg's time with the Marlins. I probably should have added 2007 in, though.

2007 Gregg: 3.54 ERA; 1.226 WHIP; 87:40 K:BB

2007 Wuertz: 3.48 ERA; 1.369 WHIP; 79:35 K:BB

They were closer that year, but Wuertz still wasn't clearly better. Still very similar results, though.

I think MLB should realize the misery of being a Cubs fan and schedule the remainder of our games against the Pirates and Nationals at Wrigley field and the remainder of the Cardinals games against the Dodgers and Phillies travelling back and forth every three days. We'd probably still lose the division, but it would make us competitive.

at the very least maybe they can get us an extra series with a team like the padres so we have a weak schedule we can take advantage of.

Each of the 4 teams in front of the Cubs have 10 games head to head against one of the other. Not to mention that they all have three more series each vs a 1st place team. With the exception of SF but they have a 4 game set with the Cubs so it's in their hands to help themselves there.

COL - 67-53

4 vs SF, 6 @ SF

6 vs LA, 3 @ LA

3 vs STL

SF - 66-55

6 vs COL, 4 @ COL

3 @ LA

4 vs CHI

FLA - 64-56

4 vs ATL, 6 @ ATL

3 vs PHI(including DH), 3 @ PHI

3 @ STL

ATL - 63-57

6 vs FLA, 4 @ FLA

3 vs PHI, 3 @ PHI

3 @ STL

Out of that bunch I think SF has the toughest road. Over the next month the easiest they get are 3 at home vs SD and ARI each and 3 @ MIL. They could be toast by the time they face the Cubs. The Cubs are 4 games back in the loss column. IF they can get their crap together and stay healthy they have a very real chance at getting the WC.

It's amazing how much better I would feel if Gregg hadn't blown the game Monday. 3 out of 4 from LA would really help, but with Colorado at Washington and St. Louis at San Diego. Probably will just be treading water.

At this point, you have to think that watching the wheels fall off this team's smoke wagon will be way more entertaining than sneaking into the playoffs and being fooled into thinking they are worth a damn.

I think this team has got to be the most frustrating team I can remember. The potential was there the whole time, it just never happened. In 2004 they won 89 games, that's not bad at all.

Yup, I think I'd rather root for the wheels to fall off than keep clinging onto hope that the Cubs can somehow overcome their minuscule odds and make the playoffs.

Id definitely rather root for the sneaking into the playoffs option, but I suppose if your rooting for the wheels falling off option, your a lot less likely to be dissapointed.

Well yeah...obviously I'd rather the Cubs make the playoffs than have the team completely collapse. But the odds are lessening by the day, so rather then cling onto something that is so unlikely to happen and will disapoint me when it doesn't, I'd rather just cheer for epic failure. Freddy Bynum 4 errors in a game failure.
