This has happened many, many times over the years.

If the game's not on ESPN, or the Cubs weren't playing a NORTHEASTERN team, this is a non-issue.

what if he held on to the cup, is it still battery? i really thought this happened all the time. maybe things would be different if it was just on CSN and not ESPN.

It'd still be battery if he just threw the beer on Victorino without hitting him with the cup.

I hope this idiot gets banned from Wrigley.

Someone in the crowd at Wrigley dumping a beer on a player or throwing something at them as that player is about to make or is making a play?

Please list some of the "many, many" times this has happened.

Its time that crap like throwing stuff at the players is no longer tolerated at all. This however is no as bad as what happened in the U.S. vs. Mexico game the other day. Landon Donovan had cups of piss and vomit thrown at him when he was taking corner kicks.

No list, but the beer dump is nothing new.

i think he should be thrown in jail and locked up for life! we cannot tolerate this kind of behavior in a civilized society, i'm just glad he turned himself in because the door-to-door manhunt would have been [expletive] intense as hell. checkpoints go up at 15 miles, guy's jumping off a dam and ripping off an ambulance intense!

throw the book at him, he raped santa claus.

Yes. I particularly remember seeing this happen to Lenny Dysktra (insert joke about how he deserved it) during the 8-8-88 game (at least in that series).

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count all the times I have seen beer dumped on an opposing OF'er in the middle or end of a catch at the wall.

i can remember it happening to dykstra when he was with the mets AND with the phillies. seriously, he got a whole 32-ouncer dumped on his head, not the swill at the bottom of the cup chucked at him.

Who will step up to heal our nation in the wake of this travesty?

This Johnny Macchione has stained the game.

I dunno, I've seen the beer dump plenty of times right after a play is made but not when the guy is standing there about to catch the ball. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I really don't think that as it happened this time, with the guy obviously trying to time it to [expletive] up the catch, has happened "lots and lots" times at Wrigley.

I'm not saying this is a big deal...I guess I've just missed all of these other times when it has happened.

I will say I dont remember people actually throwing their glasses that are full of beer at a guy like Victorino

but what ever. hell, I've seen it done in the Metrodome by Twin fans

Just a cherry on top of a ridiculously sorry Cubs season.

2004 all over again (even though I though Hendry made all the right moves in 03/04).

the 2004 team was actually good

The thing is, he'd never do that [expletive] on the street. Victorino would pound him into the ground. If you threw the cup, man up and say, "hey, I hate your guts, so I threw a beer on you." At least you're being an honest jerk, instead of this clown who lets his friend take the rap. That's even worse!!

Also CSN had a poll the night when it happened - "Would you turn someone into security that you saw throwing a beer?" Like 67% said yes. So 67% of you are hypocritical douchebags, and liars. You may disagree with it, but it's not like you're going to be this manly man and through all adversity, find a security guard to rat someone out to. No, you're going to sit there, stunned, and giggle into your hands about what you just witnessed.
