There's no way I'm letting Harden pitch in the playoffs if it stays like this. Too many HR's.

There's no way I don't pitch Rich Harden game 1 if he keeps pitching like he has his last 5 starts. If Harden is healthy and rested he's the best pitcher we have, and one of the best in baseball.

The strikeouts have been there, but he's still giving up too many HRs and his BABIP looks a little lucky in that stretch. I'm still iffy on him being "back."

He's shown more than enough to me to indicate he's back, and if they ever figure out how to give him some extra rest and not having him throwing every 5th day I think he'll be great again.

I'd probably pitch him game 2. I don't want him in Game 1 because I don't want him pitching in Game 5 unless there's extra rest built in.

Extra rest is built in to at least 3 of 4 if not all series.

Yeah, so you don't need a 5th starter, but not really so your game 1 starter can have 5 days rest, right?

The game 1 starter would have 5 days rest before game 5. There is an off day both times the teams have to travel (after game 2 and after game 4) except for the one AL series where there are 3 off days instead of 2.

as long as we are throwing around ideas-

with Z, demp, lilly, and harden all nursing minor injuries, do we use a 6-man rotation for awhile when they are all back?

The Giants probably have the 2 best pitchers, but they probably have the 2 worst out of those groups too.

Randy Johnson is better than Jason Hammel, but otherwise you're right.

isn't randy johnson done for the season?

I knew he was hurt, but didn't think he was done for the year. He may well be and I just didn't know, though.

He had/has a torn rotator cuff but he thinks he can come back for the final 3-4 weeks of the season.

Ok, thanks.

I could see them having each of Wells and Harden skipping a start or 2 if that's what you mean. Wells being a rookie they *should* start thinking about his workload. It will be hard given the close race though and I'm sure they'll be tempted to use up impending FA Harden if they get desparate enough down the stretch.
