Some starters:

Iowa - Esmailin Caridad (vs. Kyle Davies)

Tennessee - Chris Carpenter (vs. Barry Enright)

Daytona - Ryan Searle (vs. Darin Downs)

Nothing else is listed yet.

Btw, someone posted in the other game thread that the Jackson demotion was confirmed to be for off-field stuff. I'd be curious to read any links on it.

Also, finally got around to reading the blurb that Marty Pevey had on Rosa/Flaherty in the ITI article from last week. Very interesting to read about their problems with opening up and gives me better hope that both guys can step it up.

Im psyched about Carpenters Tenessee debut. Him Cashner, and Jackson should all begin 2010 in Iowa.

Start 2010 in Iowa? If that happens, and they do well, I'll be excited, but I'm not sure I'm expecting all three to start 2010 in Iowa. We'll have to see what happens with Jackson the rest of the year - the disciplinary stuff is a bit surprising as the reports on Jackson seemed pretty solid. I suspect he might start 2010 at Tennessee again, which won't hurt him at all (he was ahead of the curve anyways). With Carpenter, I'll be curious how his stuff plays, particularly his change, against AA hitters. He's a guy that, with that one-two punch, should've dominated the lower levels, and he did. There's still some control to iron out. The fast/breaking ball is top shelf, but let's wait and see if he's a top starting talent. A month ago, though, I didn't think it was a breakout season (dominating Peoria). Now ... I do.

I do think, barring a collapse, that Cashner might start at Iowa. He's the one with the best shot in my opinion.

I do think that Jackson could struggle some in the PCL. That's a much more hitting-friendly league, and there are typically more experienced power guys in PCL than Southern League. He's an extreme fly-ball guy, and no matter how good his WHIP/K/BB numbers may look like, I project that his primary vulnerability is going to be the long ball. Might have some Harden/Lilly type profile in that respect. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him give up too many PCL HR's to have super numbers up there.

On Dae-Eun Rhee, he's throwing side sessions in Mesa and not feeling any pain but the Cubs might not play him till the fall since there's only a month left in the minor league season and this way the Cubs can control the environment he's pitching in when he comes off his rehab.

I remember Arizona Phil had thought that Rhee might debut in 2009 in instructs. The Cubs did this with Al Alburquerque and Rafael Dolis (in the Dominican instructs) last season.

  • Cashner will almost certainly begin 2010 in Iowa or Chicago
  • Jackson will likely begin 2010 in Tennessee, but could go to Iowa
  • Carpenter will most likely begin 2010 in Tennessee - he'd have to have a huge finish & camp to begin at Iowa after the aggressive promotions this year.

They'll be lucky if they play tonight. We've had to pull the tarp 6 times since 9:30 this morning. And it appears there's no end in sight. It's raining like crazy right now and once it's over it looks like it's gonna rain like crazy 30 minutes later, and so on and so forth.

This one might get banged out.

Esmailin Caridad is recovering from a poor start to the season and slowly putting together a solid season at AAA. ERA down to 4.21. 93-43 K-BB in 119.2 innings.

went to the daytona game tonight,

the offense is REALLY lacking of late.

Searle 5 Ip 8 hits (5 Ground ball hits) 4 runs, 8-1 GO/AO and 6k's.

Searle, was pitching fairly well IMO.. they laid down about 6 bunts on him, 3 of which became base hits, a fly ball that turned into a 2 rbi double in the first inning, because they were playing him pull, and he hit it to dead center

i have seen somewhere in scouting reports that searles breaking pitch isnt that great, but he had ALOT of swings as misses with it, nobody touched it.

opitz with his bat back into form also makes me happy, and castro and gonzalez with 2/5 2/4 nights respectivly..

i dont care how old chirinos is, but he continues to impress me, with his plate discipline, ability to block the ball and his OPS of .970.

campana is rediclously fast. im not going to lie, one of the fastest ive seen come through

talking to the players after the game, Simokaitis was released.

nobody was sure on his replacement, i am assuming maybe..... Huseby?

- Chirinos is repeating a level and is getting old - I wonder why he hasn't been promoted. I think the Cubs have realized that he is likely to walk this offseason (6 year minor league free agent).

- Campana needs to hit the ball with more authority - he is a singles hitter who must get a lot of bunt hits. When he starts getting more doubles and triples, I will put my faith in him.

- Glad to hear Simokaitis is gone - nothing personal, I just didn't see that happening at his age & he was wasting a roster spot better used for someone else. Austin Bibens-Dirkx would also be someone warranting a promotion (he is 24 years old).

- Thanks for the notes!

Vitters out again. Bah.

Do we know what Vitters' injury is?

Not sure how reliable this person is:

Josh Vitters has missed the last few games with a minor hand injury, he should be back soon
