Geovany Soto (strained oblique) could begin playing in minor league rehab games as soon as Friday.

Soto has been on the disabled list since July 11 because of a left oblique strain and has been rehabbing at the Cubs' spring training facility in Mesa, Arizona. "Optimistically, we hope he's back in the lineup here no later than Colorado, maybe a chance a little before that, the couple games in Cincy," Cubs GM Jim Hendry said. Chicago starts a three-game set in Cincinnati next Monday. They play a four-game series in Colorado starting on August 7.

Rehabs, what a novel concept right Dempster?

You see they were trying to make Dempster go to rehab but he said, "No, no, no."

Geovany Soto is expected to rehab with the Tennessee Smokies next Monday - Wednesday, which means he's likely to play in the AZL over the weekend.

Unless Soto dropped 15-20 LBS. I really don't care. He's going to be a minor upgrade at best above Koye, if he didn't drop some weight.

What in the hell are you talking about?

Koyie Hill is hitting .218 .309 .310 .619

Geovany Sot is hittin .230 .330 .396 .732

1st off that is a 113 point advantage in OPS and thats including Geos April stats when he had a freaking .398OPS. Since then hes put up an OPS over .720 in every month, with June being over .900 and July in limited at bats over .840.

Hell so far in July Hill, as a starter mainly, has an OPS of .563 in almost 75 at bats.

If you think going from Hill to Soto will be a minor upgrade at best, I really dont know what else to tell you except you are wrong. Put Soto in this lineup as the 7th hitter behind Soriano, and it gives us basically 1 black hole and thats Fontenot hitting 8th which we can live with when 1-7 is very productive.

Once Geos back, we'll be back to the best lineup from top to bottom once again as long as everyone else stays healthy.

The Phillies have the best lineup.

I read that to mean the best possible Cubs lineup.

Oh, ok that makes more sense.

He was heating up in spurts before the injury without losing weight. He is a huge upgrade over Hill if he hits the way he was before the injury.

I was thinking about the weight issue as well hopefully, the Cubs had a personal trainer riding his ass and he dropped some weight.

Soto DHed and went 1/3 with a line drive double to right and a strike out before being pulled. Now he's off to Tennessee.

Soto went 1-2 with a walk (and rbi if anyone cares) with Hendry in attendance.

He also got his first chance to catch Cashner tonight. :D

CINCINNATI -- Geovany Soto began his rehab assignment at Double-A Tennessee on Monday, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI single in a 7-1 win over Carolina.

Soto will DH for Tennessee on Tuesday, and could be back in a Cubs uniform by Wednesday night.

"I'm going to see if I can get Soto over here as quickly as I can, so we can give ( Koyie Hill) a breather," manager Lou Piniella said, adding: "Wednesday wouldn't be soon enough for me."

Risk-wise, what's the difference between having him catch in the minors or catch in the majors?
