I like this for the Pirates. They gave up nothing useful. Does Clement still have a future catching?

He's been having knee issues this year as far as I know, which is why he wasn't called up despite some pretty good numbers.

This is a fleecing for the Pirates. Good deal, IMO. Clement was their #1 prospect last year and could still be a good offensive catcher in the future when his knee heals. Though his defense behind the plate isn't spectacular form what I've read.

Wilson was a joke and cost too much, Snell could come back to bite them, I still think he's got a decent future ahead of him. He's lighting up AAA like it's nobody's business. That's a pretty good haul for the Pirates, IMO

11:58am: Kovacevic says Cedeno's the only player who will report to the Pirates. Clement will head to Triple A, the others to A ball.

MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo calls it a "pretty good haul" for the Pirates and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus says it's the best deal the Pirates have made yet.

the pirates are really impressing me this season

Yeah, but it's all the front office.

We still need to win games.

This don't mean [expletive] if we don't win.

And, we ain't winning.

How can the Pirates impress you? They get good young talent and then trade it away once their players develop. The front office doesn't care about winning at all.

This particular deal isn't bad for them I guess, but overall their moves have been anything but impressive.

Building a good core for the future, though.

Get some competent Front office people in there and the Pirates could be contenders inside of 5 years.

sorry, i guess i wasn't specific enough. i was talking about the front office. i like what the new GM is doing and i think it will pay dividends. i understand your frustration as a fan, but i think you may be surprised in a few years at the different ball club you watch, and root for, on the field.

I love that they have reloaded your system. I would assume that Doumit and Sanchez are next?

i'm not really seeing what you guys are. the centerpieces from all those deals, Gorkys Hernandez, Andy Laroche and Jose Tabata, might all combine for 10 home runs a year if they ever make it to the big leagues together.

I'm sure the same thing could have been said about Nate McClouth at one point and they developed him into a pretty nice hitter.

Pittsburgh has gotten some pretty good players today. The McLouth and Bay trades are different stories, though.

The way the Saltman has been pitching, I'd hardley say we didn't get good players for McLouth.

The Bay trade is interesting. Here we are a year removed from the Bay and Nady trades. At the time, the Bay trade was lauded and the Nady trade was panned. Now, Ohlendorf and Karstens are productive major leaguers. Tabata is showing a lot of potential.

OTOH, Bryan Morris, who was supposed to be the Jewel in the Bay trade can't stay off the DL. Andy LaRoche hasn't lived up to the hype, nor has Moss.

I'll completely admit that I didn't know how the players that you got for McLouth were doing, but I remember being very unimpressed at the time. Hopefully, you keep moving in the right direction. The Pirates are my favorite other NL Central team
