Trading Harden to get another pitcher would be pointless.

That's definitely a good thought, but Lee would be a pretty big upgrade over what Harden's done this season. I don't know that taking on Lee's option (even though a great deal for a pitcher of his caliber) for next season would be a possibility, though.

lee has been good, but he's gotten pretty lucky, at least ERA wise. isn't his WHIP around lie 1.30 or something?

His WHIP is 1.324, but he's got a fantastic K:BB ratio - 103:33. His BABIP against is fairly high (.325).

He struggled some early in the year, which is bringing up his overall numbers, but his WHIP has steadily (but somewhat slowly) declined each month. It's at 1.129 this month.

keep harden, offer him arbitration, let him walk and take the first round picks.

So you're relatively confident he would walk, even in this depressed market? I mean, I guess him accepting arb wouldn't exactly be the worst thing in the world...

As inconsistent as he's been, I wouldn't have any problem with seeing him get a 1 year deal.

Levine talked about trades in his blog today. Mentions left handed reliever as pretty much a guarantee. Also mentioned Teahan. Also Doug Davis, Garland, and Gorzelanny.

The non-waiver trade deadline is looming Friday afternoon as Cubs front-office executives are looking at any number of patchwork deals to keep the team competitive. A left-handed reliever is a must. Pittsburgh's John Grabow remains the best of four or five available lefties. That list includes Baltimore's George Sherrill, Washington's Joe Beimel and Cincinnati's Arthur Rhodes.

A versatile player like Kansas City's Mark Teahen would be a nice addition to manager Lou Piniella's offensive and defensive mix. Teahen was sought by the Cubs last winter, but Kansas City decided not to move him because of his value to their team. With the Royals out of the AL Central race, they may take a deal with a team like the Cubs for a top prospect.

Scouts from Oakland, Milwaukee, Detroit, the White Sox, Baltimore and Toronto were in attendance to watch the Cubs and Reds this weekend.

Isn't Fox basically a RH Mark Teahen?

Levine also mentions in that article that they're looking at Doug Davis, Jon Garland and Tom Gorzelanny ( :-& to all three) and Orlando Cabrera as a backup middle infielder.

I fail to see where Teahen would fit on this team. Unless he can play 2B with regularity (which seems doubtful), the Cubs already have decent options to back up the corners OFs and IFs.

tom gorzelanny? that has to be a joke. the worst team in our division is keeping him at AAA; what use would we have for him?

rhodes apparently sucks a lot less than i thought he did.

I don't think Fox and Teahen are a good comparison at all. Teahen can play a lot of positions and play them acceptably, and he's a completely different type of hitter than Fox.

Given that Teahan is left handed and can play second, he seems like a much better fit than Freddy Sanchez for what management is looking for. He'd come cheaper, too.

I thought there is uncertainty as to whether Teahen can play an acceptable 2b? And I was hoping we'd all be less discerning about the handed-ness of any hitters...

If Gordon didn't get hurt he was going to be the everyday guy there.

The Angels are one of many teams interested in reliever Michael Wuertz. He's under team control through 2011 and strikes out 11.8 batters per nine innings, so the A's would have to be wowed to move him.

Didnt we have that guy in our system at one point? I hope we got something really good in return for him. #-o

The A's would likely accept a "modest prospect" for Justin Duchscherer, who's currently rehabbing. There's about $1.3MM remaining on the righty's contract before he hits free agency after the season.

Just what is a "modest prospect"? color me very interested.

FWIW, Teahen only played 3 games at 2nd base, all of this were this year. I would have no clue as if he would be an improvement over Fonticant, but his bat is deftinaly an improvement over Fonticant.

Actually, it would be wise, IMHO, if the Cubs can do this move, that is to get Teahen to play 2nd.

2009 Teahen - .293/.348/.443/.792 110OPS+

2009 Fonticant - .231/.302/.374/.675 74OPS+

Another positive is that Teahen is only 27, while Fonticant is 29. Teahen also can hit lefties, unlike Fonticant.

Levine said today that Sanchez was not an option because of his contract next year, but this also would not be the first time Levine was wrong.

Sanchez has been sucking a whole lot lately.

he really hasn't had a chance to suck at a healthy level considering he has missed a lot of time lately with back and knee issues

sanchez to cubs would make my week
