While we are suffering on the Northside, the Cardinals are having their problems too. A friend is staying with us for a few days and provided the following:

Ankiel and Duncan have struggled all year and are probably hurt. The team is so desperate for LF help, they have Troy Glaus doing a rehab assignment playing LF in Springfield. Glaus can't make the throws from 3rd, how is he going to do that from LF? Rasmus has been good, better than expected. Ludwick is getting his stroke back. There are rumors of their interest in Adam Dunn, but they don't want to trade some of their minor leaguers.

3B is still a problem. Thurston is bad and it looks like DeRosa has a bad wrist, which will require surgery in the off season.

Wellemeyer is on thin ice with Larussa. He could be put in the bullpen if he continues to struggle. They would like another starter

I'm surprised Wellemeyer is still in the rotation. I've seen several times when LaRussa has gone to the mound to pull him with an obvious disgusted scowl on his face.

I've also heard rumblings that Wellemeyer has been less than accepting of LaRussa and Duncan's suggestions, and can be a clubhouse problem.

I can't imagine how a scrub like Wellemeyer could do anything but graciously accept LaMullet and Duncan's suggestions.

He's not good so you'd think he would listen to them if he wants to continue his baseball career.

There are a lot of ugly holes on that team. It's hard for a major-league team to get as little production out of LF and 3b as they have.

Well now they have Mark Derosa. That's like getting 110 OPS+ producing LF and 3B. Because you know he can play both.

The sad part is that despite the Cards having all these gaping holes and problems, they're still ahead of us.

The difference is that our gaping holes take up half of our payroll, whereas theirs are very inexpensive.

Maybe The Cubs, Cards, and Brewers should start worrying about the Astros. Their offense is just as good as all 3. They have better starting pirching than the Brewers. They're 1 solid starter away from having better starting pitching than the Cardinals. With Sampson, Hawkins, and Valverde, the back end of their pen is up there as well. So why do people keep saying its just the Astros? Is Bourn, Tejada, Pence, Lee, Berkman, Pudge not just as good as any offense in the division? This is a team that should recognize that this could be their chance and go out and get those last puzzle pieces.

Pudge hasn't had an OPS+ that wasn't below 90 since 2006. Hell, it hasn't been above 100 in 5 years. Kaz is even worse(74).

Wandy + Oswalt is a nice 1-2, but the rest of the rotation is below average and clinging. Bullpen is good though.

Not saying they can't win it, but I wouldn't rank them higher than 4th in the NLC.

They have 1 more solid starterthan the Brewers, and while the Brewers have one of the better 3-4 hitters in the league, the rest of that offense isnt getting it done. It seems like the league has figured out JJ Hardy and Corey Hart and the rest is nothing to write home about. Id put them at 3rd.

No. Maybe if they pick up Shea Hillenbrand.

My God.

They'd be unstoppable.

Don't you mean "My Shea?"

That's blasphemous to our Fuld our God.

I think Pujols and any 5 NSBB posters might be better than that lineup.

Speaking of the Cardinals and problems, the Cardinals are about a cat's hair away from trading Gerald Wallance and an Jason Motte for Matt Holliday. And they will not re-sign Holliday. How's that for having problems.
