The Diamondbacks get Cole Gillespie and Roque Mercedes.

There has to be another player because this return is pretty weak. Gillespie is almost a non prospect and Mercedes is just an older reliever prospect, although he does look talented.

Lopez was hitting .305/.368/.416 with six homers and six steals for the Diamondbacks. The Brewers figure to install him as their primary second baseman and leadoff hitter, leaving his fantasy value largely unchanged. This figures to end Mat Gamel's stint in Milwaukee, as Craig Counsell can now share time at third with Casey McGehee. The Diamondbacks could call up Rusty Ryal for a trial at second base. He shouldn't be a long-term option, but when the alternatives are Augie Ojeda and Ryan Roberts, he's worth a shot.

Not a thrilling return (for Arizona). Gillespie, a 2006 third-round pick out of Oregon State, was hitting .242/.332/.424 for Triple-A Nashville. He's typically been a nice OBP guy, but he's limited to left field and he doesn't offer 25-homer potential. He's going to have a tough time making it as a starter. Mercedes is a decent enough relief prospect, though one without closer upside. He had a 1.08 ERA in 41 2/3 innings out of the pen for Single-A Brevard County.

A few other transactions for the day:

Twins sign Mark Gridzielanak to a minor league deal

Orioles land Padres setup man Cla Meredith, who the Cubs at one point had their eye on for 31 year old journeyman-utilityman Oscar Salazar.

I really think that move is going to be the one that gives Baltimore what it takes to move to the top of the AL East.

too bad we couldn't snag lopez

Now that Fonts starting to hit, and we dont have enough of a sample to decide on Baker, I cant imagine the Cubs would have made any kind of play at Lopez at this time. However, if Font goes back to what hes done most of the season, Baker keeps doing what hes doing, and Aaron Miles continues to exist, there will be a lot of why the hell didnt we go after Lopez talk. Looking at that return for the D Backs, it couldnt have been too hard to match it.

Eh, I think this year is more of an abberation offensively. Defensively, he's usually pretty horrible(look at his UZR every year), and makes a lot of dumb mental plays. A good team shouldn't be bummed they lost out on Felipe Lopez.

Not something that people will be talking about, but that is a pretty decent deal for the O's.

Meredith hasn't been great in his time in the majors, but he's only 26 so it's worth a shot for the Os.

I've been busy with work and haven't been paying attention to other teams too closely this season. Don't the Brewers already have an awesome offense and a terrible defense? What's the purpose for them, other than the fact that it looks like they got him for practically nothing.

They have 5 guys playing 2B and 3B and the best of the 5 is Craig Counsell.
