his 2008 was one of my favorite seasons ever. .169/.189/.209 is really bad but understandable after like 2 weeks of the season... maybe you just start off with a slump. but i'd like to know how many players have put up an OPS under .400 with more than 200 ABs. that really has to be one of the worst offensive seasons in history.

also i would like to know what the hell he is doing

He broke a bone in his hand on a defensive play the inning before. He had to stay in the game because Miguel Olivo was the only guy left on the bench.

I have several friends who are diehard Royals fans (I think they are the only ones), and they are done with Dayton Moore after this trade. I'm just wondering why it was this one that put them over the top.

Bill Bergen had 3228 plate appearances in his career and his career OPS was .395. Pena has quite a way to go

Out of curiosity, how did you find that?

And that guy was amazingly bad. A high OPS of .518 for an OPS+ of 41.

Dayton Moore sucks, but that Jack Z is going to be robbing a lot of people. Those acquisitions of Branyan, Aardsma, etc. were ridiculous. The President of Seattle may have saved his job with that hiring alone. I'd expect the Mariners to be consistent 80+ win teams as long as Jack Z is there and I think they'll sneak into the ALCS within the next few years.

That Bergen guy is bad, but check this fool out:

John Gochnauer: .187/.258/.240, 46 OPS+

but amazingly his bat wasn't the worst part. In 134 games as the shortstop for Cleveland he made....wait for it....98 errors. The year before he made 48 errors.

I'd like to bring up Trey Hillman. Everyone that has payed attention to the Royals knows this guy is the ultimate failure at Bullpen Management. If you keep track, this guy has screwed up so many Lefty/Righty matchups where he obviously payed no attention to a hitter's or pither's splits.

But this weekend, the Royals were swept by the Rays. In all 3 games, Tampa Bay came from behind in the 8th to win it. In spite of these high leverage situations in all 3 games, Hillman didn't bring in Soria once.

I'm have no belief in a manager making an impact on a team, but this was an example of a manager costing his team 2 games.

I suggest you read the article as it is a good read, but there is no way possible I can prepare you for what you are about to read from GMDM:

Moore says he hopes Hillman doesn’t change anything, because “Trey has the chance to be one of the very best baseball men in a generation.” He then mentions that Tony La Russa, Bobby Cox and Joe Torre each took harsh criticism early in their careers.

Trey Hillman will be what ultimately costs Moore his job.

i have nothing to contribute to this thread other than saying that seeing ryan smyth in an avs jersey is very painful knowing what could have been had he and the rest of the avs been healthy all of last year. and then what i have to look forward to the next few years out of denver.

sigh :(

Along with signing Jacobs, who have been just terrible. It's just frusterating to see a GM who highly speaks of OBP, yet goes get players that does not fit into the OBP mold that he is wanting to do.
