Don't shoot the messenger, but I remember hearing on the radio after Soto got hurt that Lou mentioned that Fox could be a backup catcher. Bad.

From Bruce's blog:

Apparently, catcher Geovany Soto's left-oblique strain is more serious than first thought. The Cubs are still calling it "mild," but they will place him on the 15-day disabled list today, and manager Lou Piniella said Soto could be out for one month.

this is the worst season ever.

2004 says "hi"

So far this seems to be shaping up to be signifcantly worse than 2004.

Did I miss where we traded for Latroy Hawkins?

These guys are much worse underachievers than the 2004 club.

Honorable mention goes to the Cubs of 1997, who were out of it by the second week of the season. Just a terrible, terrible team.

I'd love to try to make a witty joke about the Cubs predicament, but I am just too worn out from telling myself this season was going to end up ok. Just another shot to the body by the World Heavyweight Champion Injury Bug.

So now what? Mark Johnson or Chris Robinson to the majors? Or do we make a move for another catcher?

Mark Johnson is on the AAA DL.
