Am I crazy for thinking that when we had Izturis playing every day Lou was trying Theriot at third, in the outfield, and other positions where his arm would be hilariously exposed?

You're right in that he played Theriot at different spots - 2B, SS, 3B, RF, LF all in 2007.

I remember that. Theriot in the outfield was just :-)) incarnate. The routine fly balls were adventures.

The only guy I would want at second base is Aaron Hill.

Then you're out of luck as the Jays have no incentive to trade him for anything that we could offer.

Mike Fontenot is 7-15 in the short month of July. Maybe its just a semi-hot streak, or maybe the talk of his job being on the line got to him.

Yeah, could be just a fluke, but they should give the Fontenot/Baker platoon a shot. Let Fontenot only face RH pitchers and get back to his natural defensive spot and see if that keeps things going.

Its interesting that his tailspin for the season began when he was forced to man 3b pretty much everyday. He had been jacking XBH's when he was playing second, but I can't remember the last time he hit a homer, it must have been May.

June 9th against Houston in Houston off Moehler. So yeah, it's been awhile.

It seems like the team tailspin began in that complete game shutout by Piniero, the one where we seemed to ground the first pitch to the shortstop in every at bat. Now that was a painful game.

How about get Yunel Escobar for SS and move Riot to 2b?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/braves-rumors-vazquez-escobar.html

As much as I'd love to have Yunel Escobar, he's not expensive contract-wise so I can't imagine they'd give him up for just prospects.

We'll have to come up with some kind of a legit ML bat to give them and we're not exactly overflowing with them.

Why are the Braves even considering trading Escobar? He has decent #s including hitting over .400 w/risp this year.

No idea. I wouldn't trade him if I were them.

A post in another thread (which I can't find now) said something about Cox being either frustrated or fed up with him. His line is .297/.360/.436/.796 and he has 43 rbi, 17 dbls and 7 hrs to go w/22 walks and only 30Ks in 273 abs. Does he have off field trouble? Do the Braves have another ss prospect ready to take over??

I vaguely remember hearing something about them thinking he plays SS lazily.

Chone Figgins, please. Not sure the Angels are shopping him though. He hits for good average, can draw a good amount of walks (40 this year already), and he can play practically any position if need be. He'd be a great lead off replacement for Soriano, someone who can actually get on base would be pretty nice to have at that location

Figgins would be great for our roster which is filled with players who play multiple positions. I posted before that only Lee, ARam, and Soto are 1-position players.

Soriano is probably never going to play anything other than LF for the rest of the year. Theriot could play second, but he's going to be at SS when he's in

He sure made a bang-bang play yesterday that was anything but lazy.

The ESPN guys were talking about it during last night's broadcast. Apparently, he has some issues with laziness, taking direction from coaches, and actually showing up on time.

But he certainly looked great once the game started.

My brother lives in Atlanta and goes to many games. He said that during one game, Escobar committed an error on a questionable play, or at least questionable in Yunel's mind. After the scorer put the E-6 up, Escobar was yelling and pointing up at the booth. For most of the rest of the inning, he stood at SS with his legs spread very wide, in a lazy looking stance.

I guess his act has worn thin on Bobby and Chipper.

Im going to go out and say it. we dont need a 2nd baseman. We have a solid 1-2 in Kosuke and Theriot. 3-7(Lee, Ramirez, Bradley, Soriano, Soto) should be a regular murderers row if they start consistantly doing what they're supposed to. Between Fontenot and Baker, most NL( and a lot of AL) managers would love to have 1 of these guys in the 8 spot in their lineup.

If they really want to do something though, I know this wont go over well, but how about Nomar? I dont know if he can still play SS, but if so, slide Theriot to 2nd and see if theres anything left in Nomars tank. I dont think hes on more than a 1 year deal, and I doubt they're paying him that much, so he shouldnt be too hard to get.

Seriously though, how much would Nomar cost? Couldnt be too expensive. Maybe 1 of Hoffpauir/Hart/Fuld and 1 or 2 lower level prospects? If we werent giving up much, Id give Nomar one more go.

To do what? He'd almost certainly be worse than Fontenot. Heck, scrap the almost. He'd be way worse than Fontenot.
