Brewers lose.

While it does suck to have to scoreboard watch this early on, if this Cubs team can finally pick it up, especially wehn Aramis returns these NL Central teams may very well end up being very sorry that they didnt bury us when they had the chance. This is a division that nobody has any interest in winning, and the Cubs are talented enough to take it and be in first as soon as the ASB.

The eight games before the all star break against the Crew and Cards will decide our fate.

Potentially. If we go 7-1 or 6-2, or alternately 2-6 or 1-7 they could, but if we do a 5-3 or 4-4 job, we'll pretty much be were we are now.

I think our biggest problem right now is that this team is getting old. Our "stars" are on the downside of their career and we really don't have any superstars in the making. We need to get younger, but it's going to be tough to do that with all these long-term contracts and NTC's.

And no young contributors on the horizon.

i'm kind of late to this party, but why do people keep lamenting long-term contracts for the Cubs? they have, what, two (Z and Soriano)? maybe Dempster, i guess.

I attended the game, damn, it was hot! We were in the upper deck along the 3b line, 14 rows in, not a bad view at all, I should have brought along some broth to base us every half hour because were roasting.

Watching the game I thought it was 2006, it's looking more and more like that season every day. Routine plays screwed up, Soriano getting doubled up because he choose to start hustling to 1b only the last 10 or so feet. Also, the Fontenot at 3b experiment needs to end, either bench him or put him at 2b, go with Fox at 3b until he stops hitting. Your not losing or gaining anything defensively with Fox at 3b but, he unlike, Fontenot is hitting.

Fuku got 4 years, Lee 5, Aramis 4 (with a player opt out), 2 years (and 2 years too many) for Aaron Miles, 3 years for a decrepit Milton Bradley. While those aren't necessarily long in years, they are way too long for the production we are getting out of them with the exception of Aramis and Lee.

if people want to lament the production v. pay ratio, fine (i agree), but the Cubs are not saddled with a bunch of long term contracts moving forward. right now they have six contracts on the books in 2011 (assuming Bradley's is vested and Aram's player option) and three in 2012 (assuming Dempster's player option).

it's SouthPaw's turn to start the thread

Derwood, throw up a new thread. It's too late to wait for SouthPaw.

I dont care what side of the plate he bats from, Mike Fontenot should not be in the lineup today.

I agree, his only value to the Cubs is what he can bring to the lineup offensively and given, he's not hit at all thus far, I don't see any reason whatsoever for him to play.
