I would by no means by surprised to see Soto sent to Iowa as soon as tomorrow. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that with 2 on and no outs, down by 2 in the 9th that Lou would PH Andres Blanco for him.

Soto has no options remaining and would definitely be claimed.

Pedro Martinez signed?

Trade for Brad Hawpe? (http://cubsrumorsandnews.blogspot.com/)

Bradley is not a Cub and Hendry needs to find someone who wants to to be a Chicago Cub. The Cubs need a player like Adam Dunn (who wanted to be a Cub) or Brad Hawpe (who is a professional player)

Bradley doesn't want to be a Cub? Is that why he sat around this offseason waiting until the Cubs freed up money to sign?

I forgot about his brief 2005 2006 stints.

Everyone wants to be a Cub until the boo birds come out. Besides, he probalbly ralised that the Cubs were most likely to give him the 3 years and money he wanted.

Where did that quote come from? I didn't see it as I backtracked through this thread.

My guess would be that the Cubs have sent Carlos Marmol to Iowa to work on his control. According to Arizona Phil, he still has one option remaining, but would need to clear revocable waivers first (Neal Cotts did it last month).

I think there's approximately a zero percent chance that Marmol would clear waivers.

If our offense sucks again today, I fully expect changes to be made during the offday Monday.

I say make em anyway. Even if we put 10 on the board today, I refuse to believe that i will lead to any kind of consistancy. Any team can put a good game togethr here and there, even a winning streak, but it does not a contender make.

The biggest coaching change I could see happening would probably be to fire Perry (don't think he deserves it, but he's probably the guy that's the highest up in the coaching ranks that has a chance to get fired). Lou just go his extension and I don't see a move as drastic as firing him as a possibility. Larry is fine, he is a top 3 pitching coach and the rotation has been really good, the bullpen has been real bad but I think that's more of the talent we got down there than it is anything Larry can change/has changed. Trammel isn't going anywhere. Maybe a guy like Sinatro or Quade gets bounced just for the sake of making a move. I don't see any sort of major trade happening. Is there a chance Ryno might get promoted to some sort of bench role?

Fire Sinatro and replace him at 1B with Dejesus. Fire Quade for not getting enough runners home in the last few weeks. If Ryno is being promoted, tell him to bring his bat and mitt. I don't think Perry will be fired, but he ought to be doing a lot of sweating.

Gerald Perry fired.

Von Joshua called up from Iowa to take over the job.

Wow. So many mixed feelings about this one.

I don't think Perry deserved to be fired for a month of problems. But anytime you're the hitting/pitching coach, you know that you might get fired just to try to shake up the team and so I can't feel too bad for him.

By the same token, my wish would be that Joshua would stay down in the minors where he can teach all the kids his wonderful ways. But if anyone deserves to get a coaching job in the major leagues it is him so I am very happy for him.

I don't see how it will help this team.

Perry is a great hitting coach. He's one of the major reasons we had a fantastic offense last year. How has Perry changed from last year? Is the instruction not as good? If so, I understand the move, but I don't see how this move fixes anything.

Joshua, from everything I've heard, is fantastic as well though, so maybe something good will come of it. I'm afraid it's making a move just to make a move, though.

Here's a link to the story, by the way.

"Obviously, we've been struggling for a long time," said general manager Jim Hendry, who personally fired Perry. "I'm not one to dump all the blame on my coaches. But I think sometimes you need a different voice."

I really don't like the move at all. As others have said, Perry is a good hitting coach. It isn't his fault we suck right now. The answer is to acquire some better players.

BCB actually scooped the media. Don't see that very often.

I agree with others, that I don't really like this move. Gerald Perry is not the problem with the Cubs recent slump. Get rid of Miles, Freel etc. and get some players that can actually hit.

Thus ended the "Patient Cubbies Era". Signal the birth of "Neo-Dustianism" aka "being aggressive"

Von Joshua is highly regarded as a hitting coach. I don't understand why firing Perry signals that the Cubs want to be more aggressive.

That's the biggest confusion for me - both Perry and Joshua (from what I understand) have similar philosophies, so is anything really going to be different from a teaching perspective?

Not that I dislike the patience approach or want it changed (I'm glad we're teaching it), I just don't see the likely positive coming from it.

My only problem with it is that it takes away one our biggest assets in the farm system. Gerald Perry was perfectly fine as a hitting coach. Joshua's replacement on the farm will most likely be horrible, given the Cubs track record
