I hope Lou erupts.

Why? It's not going to accomplish anything unless he erupts as a human fountain of delicious PED's.

I'd rather it be nauseating fountain of PED's, that way these bastards will have to suffer for what they've done while they work to improve.

A punch to the gut for everyone after each hit.

Cards and Brewers lose so this is no big deal.

Cards won.

Well whatever the first place team lost so we don't lose ground today.

Positive: starters were awesome this trip and despite the offense continuing to be bad we still had a .500 road trip.

And by acquiring a bat, I don't mean just sitting around and waiting for Aramis to come back. His bat will definitely help

Aramis is by no means a lock to be of significant help this season.

Who cares about the Reds, they'll be lucky to finish 500.

So..they're going to finish ahead of us then?

This isn't hyperbole, I don't expect to see this team finish many games above .500

Yep, that's true as well. Fred's thread basically told me that we absolutely can't sit around and wait for Ramirez to come back because our offense really didn't do anything with him in the lineup anyway.

I don't think the Reds will be around either when it's all said and done. But the longer they keep hanging around, the more we obviously have to keep track of them. Granted they are playing the Nationals, but I'm sure we'd find a way to struggle with them because of our offense.

Reds are going to win too.

I agree that Hendry shouldn't make a move for the sake of just making one, but we need to acquire a bat. And by acquiring a bat, I don't mean just sitting around and waiting for Aramis to come back. His bat will definitely help, but we need another guy as well.

who though? we've already got tons of money sunk into outfielders, and have three starting OF. aramis plays third, theriot is fine at SS, lee isn't going anywhere at 1B. it probably has to be catcher - and it would be a panic move to pull the plug on soto (plus good luck getting a good-hitting C), so you're looking at 2B. i doubt the upgrade over fontenot would be that significant, plus it's hard to find good-hitting 2B as well.

unfortunately, the way this team is set up, it's hard to improve it offensively. you just kinda have to hope that the guys who are slumping decide to show up this year.

I agree, but I just don't see anyone out there who could singlehandedly turn this team's offense around. Right now they'd need a guy hitting like a healthy Aramis at the least to get this mess going. Seems like the best guy out there is Holliday, but he's likely not that good and almost certainly just a rental for this year. I'd love to trade for him, but only if more key players on this offense were showing more signs of life.

Just keep your head to the grindstone, fellas. No changes necessary. One day luck will fall on our side. Now let's go get some Dairy Queen.

Please, propose your changes. Do you have anything besides firing Hendry and Lou et al? I'd love to bring even just one gamechanger of a player, but who is out there? Where can they play?

First, get rid of the guy who paid Aaron Miles $5 million. Also, this team is such a rats nest of incompetence and NTC's that it would take a genius to repair it.

What would really change by firing Hendry? Who is out there to take over that would be so different? Hendry has his share of mistakes, like that contract, but just how bad this offense has been as a whole can't be pinned on him or anyone else besides the players between injuries and guys simply playing like they're in prolonged slumps. The most realitic thing that could have been done differently is still having DeRosa on the team and he is by no means a player who could on his own turn around the offensive struggles. Sure, I'd love to have Ibanez right now, but nobody was predicting he'd have anything like this year so far offensively so there's zero reason to assume a different GM would have signed him instead of Bradley. I love Dunn as a player, but I think in a lineup this weak his flaws would have just been magnified and his offensive output limited to the point that he wouldn't be able to carry the team. They need someone right now who can carry the team, and they simply do not have that player nor are any available. Hendry made his mistakes and could have planned better, but much of this has gone well beyond what he or any other GM could have realistically prepared for.

This loss sucked and would have almost been better if they lost in the ninth so they wouldn't have burnt both Marmol and Gregg for another day or two but I just don't know what to say. It's not "season over" because everyone else in the division sucks too most of the time. I still think the Cubs will right the ship, but if not, as someone said, it was never meant to be. I would rather have a scratch and claw team that makes it (they were .500 in July in '03 and we all remember this point in '07...not to forget the '06 Cardinals) than one that cruises and loses. Maybe that should be the team motto.

Edit: motto being we cruise and lose. lol maybe not....

If Hendry is gone, doesn't mean Gary Hughes is in charge?

Ugh.

i love the people who cry "fire hendry" as if that will magically rebuild our farm system, undo the bad signings and turn the cubs into a 120 win a year dynasty.

It won't. This mess will take some time to fix. But, if we fire Hendry, we can take a step in the direction of rebuilding the farm, stop giving out some of the worst contracts in baseball, and stop trying to build around certain "needs" percieved only by Hendry (guys who can catch the ball, leadoff hitter, getting more left-handed, etc).

Are you suggesting we keep him?

You're a moron.

I'm not interested in talk radio anger. Thanks for the reply though.
