Why is Stassi even available? He's not even a tough sign.

So who do I want the Cubs to draft? And who should I be annoyed at if they take him instead?

You'll be annoyed if they take Brett Jackson. Toolsy but major contact issues.

Sweet. A center fielder that can't stick in center and can't hit either. Awesome.

He came close to being picked by the Chicago Cubs. The organization called and made him an offer with the 79th pick, toward the end of the second round. He turned it down, though, because he's expecting either the Red Sox or Yankees to give him a chance to play summer ball for them to see if he can earn the undisclosed money number he wants from them.

Tate HS (FL) 3B Jayce Boyd who signed with FSU.

Out of curiosity, what were the circumstances behind the Nationals getting a draft pick at #1 and #10?

They had the worst record in baseball last year, giving them #1 overall. Last year, they had the 9th overall pick and drafted Aaron Crow. They ended up not signing Aaron Crow. Under the new rules, if a team does not sign a player they drafted in the first round, that team gets a compensatory pick the next year the pick after where where they had the pick last year. Because the Nationals had the 9th overall pick last year and failed sign Crow, they got the 10th overall pick this year.

Texas took him. Enjoy going to FSU, kiddo.

That's what I thought. So, pretending for a minute that the Nats can't sign Strasberg and they finished with the worst record again this year, would they get the top two picks in next year's draft?

Does anyone have a link to a draft list that shows who is getting compensated for what for all the first round and sandwich picks?

Personally, if the Nats can't sign Strasburg, then they should have no business drafting 1 and 2. If you can't sign Strasburg, then chances are you can't sign next yr's top two players.

Why? If they can't sign a guy who might be demanding $50 million, how that does mean they won't be able to sign next year's #1 and #2?

Nevermind. I found a Raisin post in another thread with exactly what I was looking for.

First: Strasburgh isn't getting $50 mill no matter how many times Boras keeps throwing the number out there.

Second: If Washington can't sign the unquestion best prospect of the 2009 draft, who to say to the top 2 prospects in next yr's class don't pull the same crap and Washington is forced into taking players who are easier to sign instead of players who would improve their franchise.

It's a moot point anyways, since Strasburg will sign and prolly in the $22-25 million range.

Actually, the first post in this thread should have that info too. :)

The Red Sox and third-round pick David Renfroe have agreed to terms on a $1.4 million bonus. Under MLB provisions for two-sport athletes, his bonus will be spread over five years. The net present value of the deal comes in below the $1,134,000 bonus Boston gave first-round pick Reymond Fuentes.

Renfroe’s bonus is well over MLB’s $294,300 recommendation for his draft slot (No. 107).

A two-way star at South Panola High (Batesville, Miss.), Renfroe will be a position player as a pro. He’s a polished hitter with solid power and a plus arm that delivered fastballs that topped out at 95 mph. A star quarterback as well, he had committed to Mississippi.

Hard to turn down that kind of money I guess.

What is with Aaron Crow? I hate it when players don't sign like this. Its one thing to have teams like the Yankees with unreal budgets, but another thing when teams smaller teams can't draft the best player available because of signability issues. We already limit what young player can do in terms of compensation with arbitration and free agency. They need to find a way to fix this end.
