Ugh. Whenever Soriano's slumping, everyone keeps hating on him. When he's on fire, everyone worships him. Seriously, that's just how he is. A streaky player. Deal with it. yeah, he got a monster contract he didn't deserve. But no amount of bitching will change that.

I have come to live with the streaks of Soriano, but his half assing, terrible route running, cant field a ground ball cleanly 2 steps from him in the OF ass is starting to really annoy me in LF. The guy isnt hitting, fine, he will get hot and hit. But, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, play some freaking defense out there.

Granted there are times Alfonso frustrates me in LF, I still think he's an above average fielder.

If I could magically rid this board of one thread, it would be this one. Yeah, the contracts idiotic, but saying you cant win a world series with him is nonsensical. When hes hot hes hot, and we love him. When hes bad, and yes, he is currently particularly bad, everyone blames him for all the worlds problems. We have a lot of guys on this team, who if they dont start producing we wont have to worry about winning a world series or getting to October for theat matter.

I'm not sure I'm buying that. The only thing keeping him from being horrid out there is his great arm.

He's not consistently bad, but like at the plate, he seems to go through phases where he has his head completely up his arse.

If Soriano goes on one of his hot streaks during October he could carry a team to a World Series title.

A team with Aaron Miles on it will never win the World Series. Oh wait.

But in all seriousness, I don't think the thread title was 100% because if so that would be stupid because one player doesn't make or break a team by himself.

Wasn't Soriano a member of the Yankees in 2000? and didn't he hit what should have been the GW home run in game 7 of the 2001 World Series? This will look funny after he goes on one of his 3 week tears and hits 10 home runs. Then again, the same complaining will happen after he hits .100 and strikes out 30 times in a week. Like someone said, the guy is a streaky player and we just have to live with it.

Soriano played in 22 games and got 53 ABs with the Yankees in 2000.

If he was on the postseason roster that year, he didn't get a plate appearance.

We should work out a trade for Josh Hamilton and watch his head explode.

Josh Hamilton AND Soriano, that would be epic. :-))

Some people will never get over the amount of money that Soriano makes. It is a shame because he has added more positive than negative since becoming a Cub. He contributes to the team. Do I wish his contract was more reasonable? I suppose so but it is a sunk cost at this point. He is here, deal with it. That is my approach to questionable contracts....as long as the guy is giving the Cubs a reasonable level of production then what is the point of banging your head into a wall over the contract?

My thoughts exactly. He looks like he just doesnt care in the field.

We have to get to October first.

i can't imagine a playoff pitching staff being stupid enough to let soriano beat them that many times

Hey, Mojo Pin responds with angry talk radio likeness.

That's pretty ironic coming from you. I'm not sure what was "angry" about my post, but we'll just throw it on the heap of nonsense you've spewed in your short time here.

But please, insist again that the people who realize that the playoffs are ultimately a crapshoot of timing and luck due to them (especially the first round) being short series are wrong and that there's a way to plan for playoff success outside of putting a team on the field designed to succeed over the course of 162 games.

It's pretty simple...you ask people how they think a team can best win in the playoffs and they answer by saying one should put a quality team out there for the regular season. When the question is flipped to you you have nothing except rants about "choking under the pressure of the big lights of October" or similar garbage and no answers. Don't talk like you can create a team that's all but a playoff lock that will also succeed over the regular season when you know you can't back that ridiculous idea up at all.

I can't imagine pitching staffs that throw him strikes in his first at bat or pitching staffs that throw strikes to Zambrano either.
