Alas, the days of Twitter’s innocence in hijacked celebrity accounts may have come to an end. Tony La Russa, the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, is up in arms over the fact that someone other than him tweeted under his likeness and that Twitter permitted it. In fact, he’s so pissed that he’s taking Twitter to court.

So what’s the fuss all about? Apparently the individual tweeting as Tony La Russa (@tonylarussa was removed after the lawsuit was filed) made statements that the real Tony didn’t appreciate. So he’s suing Twitter and the causes of action include trademark infringement, trademark dilution, cybersquatting, misappropriation of name and likeness, invasion of privacy, and intentional misrepresentation.

the photo below shows a couple of the posts....awesome.

i once had a fake jason lezak (us olympic swimmer) facebook account with a couple thousand friends. all my updates were "me" complaining about michael phelps getting all the credit. A lot of people fell for it, too, including some actual swim team members like natalie coughlin or whoever she was. She was not pleased with me when she realized it was fake.

I know this has been brought up before but who was the pro athlete that had his own website and it revealed he was as dumb as like a 3rd grader? Late 90s I want to say.

I think it was Jay Williams when he was at Duke

And lst and not least, I would like to thank my girlfriend for who I love very much. Noelle, you've been there for me for the whole year and I just wanted to thank you for everything. I love you and have a question in about a year that I will ask you.

You have got to be kidding me if you think that makes him dumb as a 3rd grader. Sure, the website hurts your eyes, but there's nothing really funny about it.

I think it is Steve Blake's website that SouthSideRyan is referring to:

That was a great read. Whoever did that to LaRussa deserves a medal....or at least a round of drinks on the house.

Does anyone have a link to the fake Larussa's Twitter? I want to read some more of those posts, they look hilarious!

Yeah that's not surprising.

The fake account had 4 followers? Just how much damage was it doing, Tony? Without the lawsuit, how many people ever read these things?

For a baseball genius, you're a dumbass.

There needs to be a warning to sit way back from your screen before clicking on those links. going from that back to nsbb is shocking

The story gets better. The settled and here are the terms -

La Russa said Friday that Twitter has agreed to pay legal fees and make a donation to his Animal Rescue Foundation.
