hold the phone, it is a seven page documento not a memo

more important

You do realize the term "memo" has nothing to do with the number of pages, right?

And your argument as to its validity is how long it is?

Wow.

maybe i should have used the green font

I'll care about steroids in baseball when people who use steroids in other sports are villianized like they are in baseball. Come to think of it, no I won't.

Olympic athletes who are caught using PEDs are typically stripped of their clothing, hauled out back by a haz-mat team, and tossed in the dumpster of life without a second thought.

I agree football players get off light though.

I think the key word is care though, because nobody cares about Olympic sports.

Mlb.com disagrees with you.

1998: A jar of androstenedione is discovered in the locker of St. Louis slugger Mark McGwire, who is neck and neck with Sammy Sosa in the great chase at Roger Maris' all-time record of 61 homers hit during the 1961 season. McGwire admits he uses the steroids precursor and goes on to hit a then record 70 homers. Using steroids, precursors or performance-enhancing drugs is not illegal at that point in Major League Baseball.

MLB.com is flat lying to cover their ass.

No they're not. The memo you referred to was never enacted or enforced by the MLB.

Sammy is one of my favorite all-time Cubs (if not obvious from my username) but I don't hold any illusions about him taking Flinstone vitamins only. He probably was taking something but was smart and/or lucky enough to not leave a paper trail.

That being said, if nothing is ever pinned on him then I do think the HOF voters should give him the benefit of the doubt. That is just my opinion and sure I'm probably a little biased.

It does amaze me that there are people out there that still make such a stink about a freaking corked bat of all things.

And if the collective bargaining agreement or player's union did not give MLB authorization to test for steroids or punish players if found then the memo isn't worth the paper it was printed on anyway. The only reason they can test and suspend players now is the union agreed to it due to the pressure from outside sources.

Sammy is innocent until proven guilty on the steroid thing. There are people who I think are hoping he is linked soon, because they're just dying to rake him over the coals about it. I never did understand that.

And as for the corked bat thing: Was it cheating? Yes, although it didn't help his performance, as corking a bat doesn't work. It weakens it more than anything. And also, Gaylord Perry is in the Hall of Fame. Everyone knew he threw the spitball when he pitched, and he's admitted as much. But why aren't people railing about having Gaylord Perry in there?

*obligitory appearance in this thread*

I haven't read any of this but I assume it went something like this:

...

"Sammy did roids LOLOL!!!11"

...

"There's no proof"

...

"BUT CORKED BAT AND MONEY IN A PAPER BAG AND SPEAKING SPANISH AT CONGRESS!!!"

...

etc, etc, etc.
