I'd be doing everything in my power to dump Lee at this moment, and subsequently grab Adrian. His power would love it here, plus he's younger, a great hitter, and we're pretty close to the apocalyptic WIN NOW mold of a team.

If it takes another player as well, you do it. I'd send Guzman or any other non-starter to get this done. I think the Padres want to replenish without tanking the team outright, and Lee/Vitters is two birds with one stone.

What do you think?

The Padres are both looking to dump payroll and they are planning to have Adrian Gonzalez be the core of their team. He's pretty much untradeable unless a team severely overpays for him, and even then I'm not sure the Cubs would be in the running because the Padres have consistently wanted pitching in any trade talks.

Lee would have absolutely no use to them. While Lee might have positive value for some team out there, he has negative value to the Padres because of his contract.

Vitters would be a nice piece to start, but it would take another couple like him and also not include Lee in the deal (1 of these other stud prospects being a pitcher) for the Padres to even consider it IMO.

Ignoring for a moment that Lee won't be going anywhere with that no trade clause of his, but why would the Padres have any interest whatsover in Derrek Lee? They have a guy in AAA that could provide better production than Lee, and at league minimum.

I also don't mean to be rude, but do you honestly believe that the current home run leader in the NL and his puny contract (he makes a little more than twice as much as Aaron Miles) couldn't net a way better package from just about any other team in baseball?

Meh, I just threw the idea off the wall after I heard someone say the Padres could be looking to move him. I'd probably move heaven and earth to take a shot. A short discussion with a friend of mine convinced me it'd be easier than I thought to grab him.

IIRC, wasn't there a rumor in the offseason that the Cubs tried to trade Lee and he used his NTC?

Not sure if we actually had a trade in place, but I think we asked his agent if he would consider it (and they said no I think).

it probably wouldn't be that hard if the cubs had a better farm system

san diego isn't going to be looking for guys making big bucks...they would want solid, young prospects for AGonz...

maybe the white sox?

yeah, just spit ballin' since they made a move for peavy...

is there really anyone in the league that actually matches up somewhat well for this colossal trade?

They have better ones than the Cubs.

I don't think he said we have solid young prospects either ;-).

No trade in place that I recall, but Hendry inquired to Lee's agent about shopping him around and Lee and his agent refused.

That's to the best of my recollection, at least.

Each fake trade proposal to mock the original post gets less funny.
