They'll probably top out at 90-92 wins at best, and I fully expect the division race to be a dogfight once the Cubs and Cards get healthy again. That September schedule is pretty brutal, and like a few others said, a lot of guys are getting really lucky with BABIP. While the pitchers are overperforming, the hitting is actually scuffling a bit...guys like Hardy and Hart have had rough starts to the year, but you have to figure by the time they get going guys like Looper and Parra will pay for putting so many guys on base. The fact that Hoffman's been so lights-out since coming off the DL definitely helps matters, too. He obviously won't be unhittable all year, though, especially if he keeps up the pace of appearances he's been on.

The Brewers are 21-5 in the last 26 games.

Anyone who thinks they can keep that up are not that smart.

True. I imagine they follow this run up with another of their craptastic ones. Seems they are the most one extreme to the other team in baseball the past two years.

I dont know about that, but if their pitching holds up, they could easily run away with the division. We should still have little problem taking the wild crd though with our only real competiton being whoever doesnt take the East between the Mets and Phils.

This is such 2004-speak its scary

in fact in many ways this team reminds me of the 2004 team but I know thats horrible fearmongering

We just need to accept that this could be a dog fight to the end, much like 2007, but unlike 2007 its not 2 mediocre teams fighting to back door their way into the playoffs and it should take >95 wins to take this.

This series reminded me why i hate the Cardinals so much more than the Brewers

the last few years fighting with the Brewers has clouded my vision, they are not the major foe, they can win the division if we stumble, I'll be cool with that

At least their players have like, talent. It makes sense when they hit, this is what they are supposed to do. I'm tired of the cobbled together trash heap players beating us

I don't see the Brewers overcoming the Cards for Cub enemy #1 anytime soon.

Heck, I still hate the Mets much more than the Brewers, and they aren't even a rival anymore.

I definitely hate the Cards a lot more, but I dont want the Brewers to win anythying simply because I like them right here in Baseball Hell with us. Granted, they're not in the same level, with only the Indians and Giants the only ones anywhere near us, but the Brewers are right in that '60s expansion team level with the Padres, Rangers, Astros, Marniers, and of course that dreadfull Montreal/Washington franchise. The more company we have, the better I feel about our futility. For that reason, and that alone, if I were forced to chose between the Cards and Brewers to take it all, Id reluctantly chose the Cards.

After all, while our franchise may be the frustrated, the average fan for each of these other teams is just as startved as we are.

The Cubs don't have any company in terms of their futility. They're in a league of their own.

As a team, yes, as far as fan bases, no. You're average Indians or Giants fan has yet to experience a World Champinship either, and their probably just as frustrated. Same goes for fans of those teams who have never won a Series, or those who have never even been there.
