it couldn't withstand his 30-30 potential and finally gave in

EDIT: Seriously though...

Rickie Weeks is expected to undergo season-ending surgery for a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist.

Weeks had a similar injury in his right wrist in 2006. It's a huge loss for the Brewers, even though they now have the potential to upgrade their infield defense. Craig Counsell figures to start at second against righties, with Casey McGehee possibly playing there against lefties. The Brewers, though, will likely eventually look outside of the organization for help. Mark Grudzielanek and Ray Durham, who started over Weeks down the stretch last year, are still free agents, and Ronnie Belliard is one of the second basemen likely available in trade.

Weeks was pulled from the game after his first AB against the Cards yesterday after he felt something in his wrist that didn't feel right...considering his history of wrist problems, everyone had a bad feeling about it from the start. He went to get it checked out today by the same doctor that did the surgery on his wrist a couple years ago, and they found the same exact injury in the other wrist -- a torn tendon sheath under the wrist.

Recovery time is 4-6 months.

Weeks hurt himself while striking out Sunday in St. Louis. He had an MRI exam Monday in Arizona, and it revealed the injury.

The oft-injured Weeks was hitting .272 with nine home runs and 24 RBIs. The Brewers reached the playoffs last year as the wild-card team.

The Brewers said Weeks had a torn sheath in his left wrist and will likely have surgery this week. Recovery time is four to six months.

huh. I figured they'd promote Escobar and move him to 2b.

I think they are hesitant to do that since he isn't hitting very well this year and are afraid it could be made worse by learning a new position.

Sucks for the Crew, but I dont feel bad at all. As far as the relevent teams in the NL Central go, the Cubs and Cards have suffered much bigger losses. If the Brewers dont mind a horrible defense, they can move Bill Hall to 2nd and Gamel to 3rd and still have a great offense,. assuming that Gamel can hit in the majors.

Please go with the Counsell / McGehee platoon.

(BTW - I love that current McGehee line - .188 / .188 / .188)

I feel bad for Weeks and many of their fans but I don't feel bad about that announcer who laughed about Aramis getting hurt.

That guy can suck it.

Really? That sounds out of character for Schroeder. But I didn't hear it.

Wait, this happened in both wrists at seperate times?

I wonder if somehow his swing is putting funny torque on his wrists? Cuz that's just odd.

They were giving a courtesy cheer as he was being helped off the field. Even the biggest rivals arent going to openly cheer a player getting hurt.

Granted, I doubt they were crying in their Velveeta over it, nor were we when Chris Carpenter or Ryan Ludwick went down, but they werent cheering that a guy went down in excruciating pain.

Rickie's walk-up music was the coolest on the team, so when I visit the crew for a few games this year, I'm going to miss it.

I always feel like running up to the booth and destroying the PA system when I hear Hart's "I'm a Country Boy!" blaring through the speakers. Ugh.
