The entire "tradition" should have ended after 1998.

I think Santo should sing it every day. This guest conductor crap grew old a long time ago.

I agree. =D>

I like having guests. It gives watching a game some variety with the interview in the bottom 7th. Its entertaining like a talk show right after the stretch.

Love your AV, and respect the post count, but baseball is entertaining enough for me. I don't care about celebrities in the booth, and frankly think it takes away from the game - what i tuned in for - something with enough variety by itself. If they are going to keep doing this, Santo is the best option, with said genuine Cub fan occasional exceptions.

Yeah I watched the youtube clip and I don't get why her version is any worse than the average one. Tone deaf yelling seems more appropriate for that song anyways.

What he said.

OK, it didn't sound bad at the game, and it honestly sounds even better on Youtube. The only thing she did wrong was scream it a little, but she didn't mess anything up and it wasn't THAT bad of screaming. I'm a little befuddled.

not exactly screaming, but definitely more in that direction than genuine singing, at least

for most of it. there were some other, shall we say, suboptimalities involved as well, for

example that she sang through her nose, but I'd have to agree that it wasn't notably

worse than most of the other guests that pass through the booth.

I have some friends who dislike her purely because they think her reputation for hotness is

unjustified. I don't see why that would be her fault, unless she's particularly smug about it,

but maybe that's what was going on here? or is there some other reason that the faithful

might have for thinking that she, unlike other famous women they've enthusiastically accepted,

simply doesn't belong at Wrigley?

It looks like they had the words to the song written down for her, too. She was looking down during the verses.

Looking pretty good in that Cubbie gear and the blonde hair. I'm not sure I really even care what she sounded like.

Having guest conductors in the booth is just asking for failure.

Even if you sing it great, no one will really pay all that much attention. If you really suck at it, people will certainly take notice.

Why put yourself in that position?

First guess? Because your last film of any note was Love, Actually in 2003, and your last TV appearance worth mentioning was on Dancing with the Stars where you were quickly eliminated?

She had the pace down and words down. Thats all I ask for. I hate when someone sings the wrong word/s and really hate when they go way to fast and ruin the whole thing.

the hope is that it increases their appeal to any non-fans who may happen to be watching,

whether they're at the ballpark or watching on tv, and that it'll help keep things fresh for the

casual fan, something that isn't trivial when you're trying to get fans to routinely spend three

hours in front of a tv. it's often a negative for the serious fan, but let's face it...the serious

fans are going to be watching anyway, as long a there's a halfway decent team on the

field.

overall the 7th inning stretch and its guest conductors, the YMCA song, ect are all a part of

strategy to make the game more family oriented, something that's obviously in their best interest:

young kids at the ballpark = future baseball addicts = $$$$

Haha. I was actually referring to the Cubs organization, not Denise. However, I will agree that she's really not all that relevant. But, when I see her, she reminds me of one of the girls in American Pie.

oh.

so you meant that from the guest's perspective, rather than the team's? my bad.

she mentioned in an interview I saw somewhere that she's working on raising money for charity; I

assume she mentioned that during the interview in the bottom of the 7th, telling everybody where

to send their money. that's one motive. publicity is another, and in this case, results notwithstanding,

there seems to have been plenty of synergy between the two goals

Winning games will always beat out guest conductors. And you had it right the first time. My post was not from a performer's standpoint.

She's not an A-lister, but she is known, she is from the area, and she was there already promoting a charity.

Winning is the best way to grow fan bases, but that has done very little good for some teams, like the New Jersey Devils. That team has won a bunch, but they do zero PR/Marketing, and struggle whenever the team is less than Stanley Cup caliber. The main goal should be on winning games, but you have to prepare for years when the team struggles. And stuff like this doesn't take away from winning.

Yeah, but do you see the resemblence of Denise Richards and the girl in American Pie? Looks like her name is Mena Suvari.

Tara Reid or Shannon Elizabeth? Denise's career has had the train wreck aspect of Reid's, plus, the years have taken a bit of a toll on her. I guess she kind of looks like Shannon.

Nah. I edited my previous post to include the girl's name. Mena Suvari.

Haha. I just looked at Shannon Elizabeth's bio at IMDB. Born in Houston, TX.

of course, but that's not an argument against guest conductors unless there's some reason to think

that the conductors harm the organization's ability to field a good team. I can't see any reason why

that would be the case, unless you want to argue that the piss poor performances embarass the

players to the point that they play worse after the stretch

I think she looks more like SE than Suvari, and that's not just taking chest into account.

There was a lot of dead air when she was in the booth with Len and Bob. They then started talking about the BatBoy who seemed to be looking at Denise's empty seat. That was mildly entertaining.

This is not the first time they have not given Len enough questions to keep a good conversation flowing.

If you say Mena Suvari, this is more or less what I see:

That looks nothing like Denise Richards to me.

You are certainly better at picking out Mena photos. But, I still think they look very similar. Maybe it's the hair and the eyes.

Granted, they are many years different in age.
