It troubles me that this chick is catching so much flak for her horrible rendition of take me out to the ball game.

Can someone enlighten me why anyone would care how well this song is sung?

I was at the game and I didn't notice anything that was crazy about it, but I must not have been listening good enough. It did sound like her microphone was turning on then off for a few times though, but maybe that was her. I haven't seen the replayt or anything, so maybe I just misheard.

Everytime anybody sings it "uniquely" they get discussed after the fact. In the game thread I thought I heard somebody say she was reading the words to the song. I haven't seen any out of the norm "flak", but I did notice the top headline on NSBB's main page says she will never do it again.

I think a better questions is: why was she singing at Wrigley anyway?

I just clicked on the article on the front page of this site and it turns out they asked her to sing since she was going to be at Wrigley with a booth about raising awareness to fight kidney cancer.

She is a local celebrity, not exactly a stretch, given all the other people that have done it.

I love it when people screw it up or sing a terrible version. It's entertaining. It's not like it's some sacred tradition given that it was sloppily sung by an embarassing drunk for so many years.

I don't get it. Yes, she's tone deaf and she was just yelling the words; however, there have been numerous performances significantly worse than hers...

And they have all received far more attention than this one has received. I hadn't heard much of anything about this performance until this thread was created.

i'm far more annoyed with the half-inning interviews. i was driving during her half-inning with Pat and Ron and it was agonizing to listen to (until Theriot hit a GS).

Front page article on multiple websites yesterday and was all over talk radio. Most of the performances in the booth are equally as bad, and you don't hear about every one of them.

Because it's tacky and stupid to have people who don't know what baseball is to get invited into the booth to prove they don't know what baseball is.

And that blame falls completely with the Cubs marketing department.

Just look at Jeff Gordon at "Wrigley Stadium".

The entire "tradition" should have ended after 1998.

I think Santo should sing it every day. This guest conductor crap grew old a long time ago.

agreed. i think one of pat, ron, len, or bob should sing it every game. with exceptions for genuine cubs fans like jeff garlin, bonnie hunt, bill murray, etc. and former cubs.

I found it on the yahoo home page and thats where i learned about it. "Denise Richards blunders baseball song" or something like that. So she can't sing....how many of them do. I wouldnt call what she did a blunder.

Yeah they were talking about it all over 670, and then on my way home I flipped it to q101 and they were playing it along with the Jeff Gordon one, so I decided to turn it to 101.9 and they were talking about her too (at the exact same time as q101). I was surprised.

I like having guests. It gives watching a game some variety with the interview in the bottom 7th. Its entertaining like a talk show right after the stretch.

I loved being at that game. A bunch of his loyal followers were at the game (many of whom were wearing Astros gear) and they were all excited at him throwing out the first pitch. When that disastrous stretch happened, they were dumbstruck and looked like they wanted to be anywhere but Wrigley.

Happily, Derrek Lee contributed to a Brad Lidge blown save that night and the Cubs won a rather exciting game.

Better still in my opinion, play a tape of Harry singing.
