You're not used to this? I fully expected Ankiel to be okay. I'm glad he is, of course, but if that had been a Cub his career would have been over, and the ump definitely would have ruled it no catch.

Thats a horrible thing to even say. Almost as bad as hoping that Pujols elbow finally falls off or Ryan Brauns back gives out, which is why Id never hope for such a thing.

Who cares why he did it? No one is speculating as to the reason why he transferred the ball. The fact remains that he did.

 

Pretty much every umpire will rule it a catch on a successful transfer to the throwing hand. A lot of them will rule it a catch even if you drop it during the act of transferring the ball.

Why does the call matter? The Phillies were handily winning 6-1 in the bottom of the 8th.

 

My friend at the game said both teams pretty much packed it in after the scare and long delay.

 

Admittedly, I did not watch the game, as shocking as that may seem.
