Yeah, we were discussing that in our game thread.

I saw it live and my first thought was "Oh my god, he broke his neck". Good to hear he had some movement in his extremities.

Like I said before, I hate Ankiel, but I hope to God he's all right. You never want to see someone go down like that.

That's not good... how long was he down? I can't see the end of it but looks like it could be C-Spine (mid)... Did he get up by himself, or was he carried off with spinal precautions?

We was down for about 10 minutes, then he was immobilized and carted off on a stretcher.

Was he moving fingers or anything at all?

Gave a thumbs-up as he was leaving the field.

He gave the thumbs up as he was being carted out. Apparently he can move all his extremities. An official report on his condition will probably be released some time in the next hour or so.

If he can move ALL extremities, he'll be fine. OUCH though... gonna be in a neck brace for awhile.

According to the GM, he never lost consciousness and could move and had feeling in his arms and legs. Although I'll say he got knocked out when hit the wall.

Yeah, I think he'll have whiplash and possibly a fractured jaw/cheekbone. I'm also worried about his left shoulder.

You don't always know you got knocked out of consciousness... but by the way his limbs flopped and the ball dropped, I'll sure say he did...

I'm glad he's going to be OK, that could have been a lot worse.

Well that's a relief, I'm glad he's OK.

Me too. I really thought I had just witnessed someone become a quadriplegic.

It wouldn't have been that bad... the way he went in, his arms braced him (although minimally) and he went high which would be a lower cervical injury. If he would have tripped earlier and gone low... with the way his head twisted before impact, could have been an Atlas/Axis injury (First/Second Cervical Spines) which is noooo good.

I may hate Ankiel with all my guts... but this always makes me sympathetic no matter who it is.

Thank God it seems like he's ok. As much as we make fun of him here, its all in the fun of baseball. I hope he can make a quick recovery. But take all the time you need Rick...might be best to sit it out until next season :)
