What a fine decision Mitch Mustain made.

He was third in the QB competition. Should probably not transfer to a place with a bunch of other 5-star QBs (imagine if Mark Sanchez hadn't turned pro).

True freshman Matt Barkley named starter for USC. I'm pretty damn surprised by this. Carroll's always played the more experienced guy at QB.

Corp seemed to have the leg up early on, did he lose ground when he got hurt?

I think he's probably a bit more hurt than has been let on, yeah. Corp's been really secure with the ball in the practices and Barkley's been interception prone. My feeling is that Corp is probably still banged up (and mobility is the one area where he really shines over Barkley) and Carroll feels secure enough putting Barkley in because there's a lot of other returning starters on offense.

Here's hoping this goes as well for SC as Notre Dame's last two true freshman starting quarterbacks did for them.

What a fine decision Mitch Mustain made.

The best part is that his top receiver from high school followed him to Arkansas, and then to USC...and Damien Williams is their top receiver and a possible first round pick as soon as 2010. Meanwhile, Mustain can't get on the field. Plus, the 5 star quarterback who would have gone to Arkansas had Mustain not been there--Ryan Mallett--ended up there anyway and is starting.

when can we expect the other seven 5-star QB's to transfer?

I don't know, but Jesse Scroggins, a 4-star QB, has committed to USC over Tennessee - where he'd likely be the starter the minute he steps on campus next year.

Maybe he wants to be eligible for postseason play.

Entirely possible. Though Tennessee's likely to make a bowl game this year.

To be fair, if the NCAA would actually bother to investigate them, the Trojans would be far less likely to be eligible for postseason play than Tennesee.

woo go mizzou for kicking him off the team and not letting him stick around to build a program of cheaters and low-lifes.

but really, i'm glad they did what they did. the kid had an MIP in high school, and he got busted for prescription pills back in the early summer. he was given another chance and he blew it. it was the right thing to do.

frankly i don't really believe that any major college football program stays within the 20 hour limit during the fall semester, though maybe most don't exceed it as badly as dick rod's team did.

I believe some stay within the limits or very close to them. I doubt many go this far overboard.

I love that current and former players are turning on him so quickly.

BTW - why do you suppose he was shredding all those player records at WVU?

If I was a Michigan fan I would be real concerned that you have players turning on the coach for violating a rule that I am sure is violated at every major school in this country. Seems like Rich Rod has been nothing but trouble for Michigan so far.

Yep these are my feelings so far. Right now I could be happy with this being his last season, not landing Les Miles is starting to hurt more now than it did the 1st time.

There seems to be an issue with the change in philosophy and the work by the strength coach Mike Barwis. There were quite a few players who complained and some who even quit because they weren't use to working out as hard and running as much.

Now that Michigan has Barwis, expect to see a faster, more explosive, and better-conditioned team on the field. Barwis has already cleaned out almost the entire weight room and brought in all-new equipment after only a few

days on the job. The old equipment was auctioned off at Oosterbaan

Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor. Barwis also

strategically plants trash cans all over the weight room so that players can puke in them if need be. They'll probably get plenty of use.Barwis specializes in using almost entirely free-weight exercises so that his players are well-rounded and gain plenty of strength in the important secondary muscles that stabilize the bigger muscles like the chest and triceps for instance. He actually trained players from several of West Virginia's sports at the same time while with Mountaineers, not just the football program, and he has worked with top-quality United States Olympic athletes in the past so Michigan knows he is capable of training the very best.
