Oduya, Bergfors, Cormier and 1st

better return than the Hossa deal, at least

And I'm perfectly OK with that. Oduya is replaceable with Andy Greene playing out of his mind and Bergfors is good but we have other good young forwards in the minors.

I'm sorta scared we gave up way too much, but we needed a scoring threat like this. And he's only 26. Just gotta lock him up long term.

will kovalchuk want to play long term in the trap?

That'll work against it, but Devils are also in contention every year. That should factor into it too.

What do you think Truffle? Honestly I think this is just the Wings doing some things to make room to move either Meech or Lebda. Leino has been awful this season. He was okay in limited time last year. He has skill, probably needs to add upper body strength to become a legit NHLer though.

yeah i haven't seen any positive comments about leino from wings fans. i think the wings needed to clear some cap space with franzen coming back, so that was one of the motivations for trading leino. i know they were high on him coming into this year, and he had nice stats in finland and in the AHL, but the criticism seems to be that he's slow and tends to float too much. i figure he still has some upside so it's worth a shot.

OKT is terrible and shouldn't be used as anything more than a depth defenseman. i'm pretty sure this is a sign that we'd rather use any of our random AHL d-men than use OKT when people get hurt.

I think the Wings will also be moving either Lebda or Meech to make room for Lilja. OKT will become like the 8th d-man if that happens

Catching the 3rd period of the Capitals/Penguins game has been pretty entertaining. If this is the norm I'll have to make sure to catch some of the playoffs.

That was an excellent game today.

You don't [expletive] with Ovechkin.

They aren't messing around. But I still can't get past the feeling that they will choke when the pressure ramps up.

I think the choking thing is a little overplayed. But they have built up a reputation that creates more pressure. The last 3 playoff losses were more about how good the other team was playing and not so much the Sharks choking. They do need to learn how to step it up a notch in the playoffs though. Adding players like Wallin will help.

Even in the last two games against the Hawks in SJ, they came out terribly. First time it ended up 7-1. The second time the Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead before they knew what happened. Sure, they came back (and eventually lost in OT), but they were obviously wound a little tight from the start. And these were both games that people were looking at as showdowns and they knew it.

for me, ovechkin is now in pujols/lebron territory as the guy who is just on a completely different level than everybody else in his sport.

ovechkin's numbers this year projected over an 82 game season:

68 goals

71 assists

139 points

+66

come on. guys don't put those numbers up anymore

I would have no problem trading Datsyuk for him even if they were the same age. Datsyuk plays great defense

ovechkin actually can play defense really well when he tries at it, which he usually doesn't do except for the playoffs. but he puts so much pressure on the defense when he breaks on turnovers that i don't see the point of him playing positional defense that most forwards do. he's a +41 in 51 games; might as well keep doing what he's doing.

Who cares if he doesn't play defense. Besides isn't Ovy a +41? Even if he is not considered a strong defense, his offense is so good that it doesn't even matter he doesn't play defense.

do not know if I should put this here or in the olympic thread.

Not sure how all that is figured out, but on paper I don't see Canada losing. Their defense/goalie situation is just too strong. Luckily Olympic hockey is not played on paper.

Gawd, I want to beat the Canadians so bad.......I know it won't happen, but man it would be something.

Miller would have to steal it...could happen. I dont see USA even medaling, though Sweden has not played well internationally recently. The Czechs always play above their heads at the olympics
