the loss is probably bigger then the win against the Hawks. I think it is time to admit that the Wings are missing something this year. I think a big part of it is teams just do not fear them. In years past when teams go behind the Wings they probably had a feeling that it was over. Clearly not the case anymore.

I still think they'll find a way in at the end and will be dangerous, but I agree they are not the same team.

not sure if the nhl will make any sort of suspension here, but these types of hits have to be illegal. it's an obvious blow directly to the head of a defenseless player.

Every time he hits the ice, the Bruins will bring out their enforcers and handle justice accordingly if the league refuses to do anything about it. There is massive rage in Boston over this incident and a lot of angry people will attend the game hung over from Patty's day. It will be ugly.

I pretty sure a day or two before the next Pitts/Boston game, Pittburgh is going to announce that Cooke has suffered an upper/lower body injury and thus will miss the game. So I wouldn't get too hype about what will happen, cause I doubt Cooke sees the ice.

The trickbag for Boston is that whoever retaliates in the brutal way that needs to be done will end up getting punished severely.

 

I do not at all understand the league's thinking on this one. I'll be watching that game next week.

all kidding aside, I think it is great that he is still playing at 48. Some people in Detroit think that the Wings may not be missing what Chelios did on the ice, but miss what he did in the weight/locker room.

I am not defending Todd Bertuzzi. It just seems odd that a similar hit to Markus Naslund was the initial blow in the Todd Bertuzzi incident. The NHL still hasnt learned how to clean up the douchbaggery

cooke and downie get zero games, but wiz gets 8 games for his hit on seabrook? that's comical. the wiz and ovechkin hits were (by far) the 2 least dirty hits of the 4, and they're the only ones who get suspensions.

with each game the Red Wings are starting to resemble the team that I know more and more. For the first time this season I am starting to get excited about there chances to actually make a run in the playoffs.

today is the 13th anniversary of this game. It is akin to a Holiday for Wings fans.

we now have three injured goalies (backlund, emery, leighton) and had a goal disallowed against the penguins today because of "incidental contact with the goalie" - no penalty for goalie interference was assessed, but the goal was taken away. if this seems confusing and perhaps the referee just made up a rule on the fly, that's because he did - there's no [expletive] rule for a goal to be disallowed without a penalty being called. just now in the third period, claude giroux had a semi-breakaway and mark-andre fleury threw his stick and giroux, which is supposed to be a penalty shot or at least a minor penalty, but apparently the referee was too busy beating off on the corner to notice it. two minutes later, matt cooke grabs the stick out of ryan parent's hands, ruslan fedotenko cross checks blair betts right in front of the net to steal a puck, goal penguins, no call.

 

this league is a joke. we're not going anywhere and i'm tired of watching bush-league officiating, so i'm going to take the rest of the year off.
