The Mets may be under .500 now, but I doubt they finish the season that way. 5 days ago I said the same thing about the Cubs.

My point about the DL is that the "strength of schedule" debate can be skewed in the early parts of the season. Technically the Cubs have been the healthiest team in baseball so far. For the Cardinals or any other team to say they split or took a series from the Cubs and think they did it against a team that was at full strength is misleading.

No, technically there is no such thing.

If SOS has any meaning, it's over short durations of time, when everybody hasn't already played everybody else.

I think the Cubs firing on all cylinders beat the Cards firing on all cylinders this year. Only the most absurd, McGwire-jersey-wearing Cardinals fans would say "we totally can win 100 games this year!" Of course the Cardinals will regress - but I still think 90 wins is a pretty achievable number.

In April, the Cards were firing on just about all cylinders. The Cubs are looking underwhelming. Once June or so rolls around, and the Cubs pitching starts performing closer to 2008 levels - and their offense kicks in, I expect the two teams to be neck and neck for much of the season. If either team wins fewer than 87 games, I'll be very surprised.

Just as it's silly to hear fringe Cards fans talk about the Cubs 2009 as a trainwreck destined for 80 wins, it would be a mistake to expect the Cards to start wholesale underachieving and wind up 4th again.

I think fall will be very entertaining.

I really really despise the Cardinals and it makes perfect sense that they are doing this to me right now

I just wish we could give them back Aaron Miles

I fully expect the Cardinals to compete all season.

I always fully expect the Cardinals to compete all season. After last year I won't ever expect them not to.
