I question the wisdom of some of you who believed you could handle watching a team over a 162 game season... the season is 8.6% over. Get up, stretch your legs, make some popcorn, and come back in July. If there's still a problem, you can start to hyper-analyze it then.

It probably doesn't help when your fearless leader is a drama queen.

"Oh my god, Hoff whatever his name is just made an error. I'll show his ass to the pine for the rest of his life and show him who's boss."

Would this thread be happening if the Cubs were 11-3 right now instead of 8-6?

Go back and look at some of my posts this offseason. I've said all along that we're a markedly worse team than last year, and we got worse with every move.

If you keep the core of your offense and the core of your rotation intact, and you've selected good players for those positions, you'll be ok. Hendry has done a good job of that the last couple years.

His problems have come mostly in the bullpen, the bench, and a couple of the lesser offensive positions. Those mistakes cause frustration but don't hurt the ballclub to a huge degree. He also has issues with overpaying for players. But overpaying for players isn't horrible if you overpay for the right players. And very few of the Cubs high priced players have blown up and been busts.

Exactly. Hendry has made some mind boggling moves, but almost all of them have been in non-core areas. Neifi, Macias, Aaron Miles, Rusch and Ordonez were all terrible moves, but none are/were critical members of the team. When he starts handing out superstar deals to the likes of Adrian Beltre, Gary Matthews Jr., Jason Schmidt, Mike Hampton, etc., etc., then I'll call him "one of the 5 worst GMs in the game." If I had the choice for the team, he wouldn't be at the top of my GM list, but there are quite a few who would be below him.

How about some good moves he's made of late:

acquiring Aaron Heilman

giving Geo a shot (even if it was perhaps a bit late)

sticking with Theriot (so far)

trying Marmol in the pen

signing Fukudome (looking better all the time)

acquiring Mike Fontenot

I realize people can go back and forth with this and that's not my intent. Just wanted to get some positivity in for Hendry. :D

While the Juan Pierre deal was horrible, at least he didn't compound the issue by giving him a 5 year 45m contract like the Dodgers did.

Yeah, I thought about including Pierre in the list of terrible contracts Hendry didn't give out, but then remembered he traded for Juan.

That said, though, it appears he only gave up one very good player in return for Juan - Ricky Nolasco. It's not good, but not as bad as originally thought.

come on, we've played 1/12 of the season and we're on pace to win 92-93 games. At this time last year, we were 9-5, and in 2007 we were 5-9. Let these guys play a few more weeks before we start crucifying everybody.

That's what Vizcaino and Hoffpauir said.

So now it seems everybody is a Vizcaino fan? If someone is pissed it should be Gaudin. He has/had more upside than Vizcaino and Patton combined, yet he was released because apparently he's a "drunk".

As far as this topic, as said prior, Hendry is far from perfect but he's far from incompetent. I think catering to his manager's whims is his biggest downfall but that's just my opinion.

I don't really think everybody is all of a sudden a Vizcaino fan. However, the guy is being cut with a 0.00 ERA, a 0.54 WHIP, a 0.0 BB/9, a 0.0 HR/9, a 7.4 K/9.

Think about that for a minute. Outside of Marmol and Heilman, there isn't another bullpen arm with an ERA under 4.00. It's only the 3rd week of the season.

Yeah, Vizcaino's stuff probably isn't any better than what Dave Bush has to offer and that guy not only has a big league job, but he's got a starting big league job. Oh, and he just took a no hitter into the 8th inning. And against the Phillies no less.

Let the guy continue to pitch in blow out games, mop up, extra inning, etc....

Let him build up some trade value so maybe we can get a AAAA prospect who will never amount to anything. Just kicking him to the curb when there are others more deserving is just plain stupid at this stage of the season.

What we really need to be concerned with is how abrasive Lou's judgments are to this team. We've been seeing it for awhile now. Patterson was late for a game and got sent back down. Hoffpauir boots a ball and is now benched forever. Gaudin had a drinky drinky and he's now a Rocky. Vizcaino is tardy and the Cubs will be glad to pay him to pitch elsewhere for the rest of the year.

Come on, already. Give the guy a day off and a fine and call it good. Oh, and forgive and forget, too.

He was released because he was downright terrible.

Just wait till we get Peavy.

To be honest, that's what its going to take to get people off his back at this point.

His past offseason was a complete over reaction to 3 bad games in September. There was absolutely no need to change anything from last year whatsoever except maybe adding a bullpen guy (like Heilman).

Keep DeRosa, keep Wood, let Kosuke/Reed platoon CF, let Hoff/DeRosa platoon RF with DeRosa also splitting 2B with Fontenot.

No need to trade Marquis, use Marshall as lefty in bullpen instead of Cotts, no need for Aaron Miles with DeRosa still around. No need for Gregg if you still have Woody. Joey Gathright could have not been signed and we could have used Jake Fox as our last bench guy.

Replacing Hank with Koyie Hill is a non-move.

So, he should have let Ward, Howry, Blanco, and Edmonds go and replaced them with Hoffpauir, Heliman, Hill, and Fox and we'd have the team we should have. Instead, he had to tinker and bring in a bunch of garbage.

Is there any way Jimbo gets permission to eat the contract and DFA Miles? I really need him off this team. Every time I see him come to bat I want to throw my TV down the basement stairs.

I haven't had such a viscerally negative reaction to a player since Hundley.

I've got all I can do from openly rooting for him to fail. The only reason I fight it is because I won't feel good as a Cub fan if I do.

Miles needs to go. Soon. Not my fault, or anyone else's, that Hendry paid all that money. Eat it.

Jim has eaten a good deal of contracts already. A portion of Marquis', Vizcaino's, Gaudin. I'm sure he could eat it if he wanted to, but I'm pretty sure Jim still likes Miles. He went out and got him, he wasn't acquired in a salary dump or tendered a contract just because he was arb eligible. Jim went out and sought Aaron Miles in a market where nobody was signing free agents.

At this point I'd rather get Adrian Gonzalez and send Lee packing.

You can probably get him for a package of Soto, Guzman, Marshall, and Vitters.
