Seriously, Milton? 1 hit, 7Ks, a robust OPS of .441. Looking like my grandpa chasing after fly balls in RF.

Couple that with missing 4 full games and most of 2 others and a 2 game suspension because he can't control himself and you have yourself a $10 million right fielder. Awesome.

Glad we determined that DeRosa was the problem last year and couldn't produce enough to warrant RF on a consistent basis or at least sharing it with Hoffpauir.

This guy is the reason why we have Aaron Miles, too. Thanks Milton.

Now go earn that contract so I don't have to hate you Todd Hundley style.

Despite his .043 avg. his .283 obp is pretty impressive given the difference. Once he starts hitting he will be an onbase machine.

Not to mention a few questionable 3-2 calls that went against him. The OBP may be over .300.

I have been impressed with his eye, but sooner or later, pitchers are going to notice he can't hit right now and will start throwing strikes. This will lead to one of 2 things:

1. He starts getting meatballs and mashes them.

2. He really can't hit and stops walking because he goes down on 3 or 4 pitches right down the middle.

If he's healthy, more than likely it will be 1, but if he's not, it could get ugly fast.

2 strike counts, he's got the bat on his shoulder praying for a walk on close pitches.

Something is definitely not right with him.

Swing the damn bat.

Yup. I would have happily taken the defense to get that (healthy) bat.

Would Dunn in RF really be world-changingly different defensively than dealing with a hobbled Bradley and Hoff instead?

I'm going to give him more time, but I'm not going to excuse the lack of hitting anymore. We haven't seen anything out of him for the better part of a month. People are all over Lee and he's done far more.

I'm going to give him more time,

It might not matter what you, personally, give him. After today he's got 1 week before he returns to Wrigley. It could get really ugly in a hurry.

and it could just as easily be forgotten with one good week.

Sure, it could. But it's going to take one big week to get the boo birds off his back. And I don't think it takes a lot of boo birds to get into Milton's head.

well, i don't doubt that morons will boo him mercilessly. that's absurd though. the guy has had 30 PAs. i highly doubt the guy who put .947 and .999 OPS the last two years suddenly forgot how to hit.

Our big free agent hitters always struggle with the Cubs (with the exception of Fukudome) in the first few weeks. I don't know if it's the weather, day games, or pressure, but people should be used to it by now.

It doesn't have anything to do with forgetting how to hit, and I never said it wasn't absurd. My concern is that it is happening though, and will continue to get worse unless he gets better, in a hurry. But it would not be at all surprising if he fails to come close to his past two seasons' OPS.

Yeah, I agree -- it's not really about whether or not people should be on Milton's case. It's about the fact that they will be, and Milton is very unlikely to be able to handle it. Even less so than Jones was.

I'm concerned how this will play out if he doesn't start hitting the ball soon.

hopefully the little road trip is coming at a good time for him and he'll be hitting when they get back into town.

Im guessing we see a big weekend from Bradley vs Stl. Its supposed to be nice and warm down there this weekend, and I think he will start to come out of it this weekend. All it will take is 1 good weekend against Stl for the morons at Wrigley to lay off Bradley for a little while.

Yeah, but the problem is that all of the boarderline calls are likely to go against him because of his past transgressions. that's why I had a real problem with him losing it last week. You're never going to get a call acting like that all the time.

Meet Milton in St. Louie?

Posted by Bruce on Thu, 04/23/2009 - 10:32

Milton Bradley went up to Lou's office this morning, and the verdict is that Lou isn't going to play his mercurial right fielder until Bradley and his strained right groin are up to it. Right now, that's not the case, so Micah Hoffpauir will be in right.

Bruce also said Milton will bat 6th.

I think part of that reflects how the pitchers approached Ramirez this week. He's the Cubs best hitter, and pitchers do not have any incentive to give him anything to hit. They threw at him a couple times, hitting him at least once. With the non-entities of Fontenot and Soto behind him, why not just plunk him repeatedly?

I don't think for a second the guy is healthy right now. Keep Hoff out there until the guy is fully healed.
They should just have him serve the suspension and be done with it, give him two days rest, and hope he's at full strength by Saturday. The best case scenario is that the suspension would be reduced to one game on appeal (it won't be completely eliminated) and I'd rather have him sit two games when less than healthy anyway than one game when healthy.
