Yeah, who cares if they perform. I've *seen* them. With my *eyes.*

BP has become so awful.

Maybe so, but they understand scouting slash lines and nothing else is [expletive] stupid.

I like to think they learned that after the Brendan Harris debacle.

From what I've seen Almora is winning in the girlfriend department

you right

When I taught at Florida International University I had three or four girls in each class that looked like that. I use to stare high up at the back of the room when I taught for fear that I would get too distracted.

My understanding is that most college professors and lecturers go into the business for that very reason. You were taking someone else's spot. Shame!

More from Parks:

@ProfessorParks: Yes. Explosion is only an adjustment away for Baez. RT @Colman_Conneely: @ProfessorParks Do you think Baez will find his groove soon?

@M_Montemurro: Epstein isn't worried about Almora's struggles @ High A (.244 ave, .267 OBP, .590 OPS) "It's great ex of when I say dev isn't always linear"

@M_Montemurro: Epstein: "This is the first time in Almora's life he's ever struggled & he's dealing w/it really well. He's not backing down at all." #Cubs

Uh you?

Uhhh no.

Almora has a .590 OPS. If anyone were scouting only the slash line, they wouldn't ask "is he out of the top 50." They'd say he wasn't a prospect at all.

"herr derr, you only scout the slash line" is idiotic baseball hipsterism at its worst.

Playing schwarber at catcher once a week just seems like a waste. Don't even bother

I'm pretty sure they just don't want to make a permanent change before fall instructs and the offseason.

It's not so much that Almora's performance lowers his projection as it really nails what he is. A very low-ceiling offense performer. His lack of Ks speaks well of his ability to put bat on ball at an acceptable rate all the way up to the majors, but how much power and walks can we really expect him to add from 20 to 24?

His defense better be every bit as good as advertised, which is definitely not something that happens with regularity no matter how much guys like Parks drool over it. If it does, he's probably going to be a useful major leaguer.

Without ceiling, without performance, I just can't put him in the top-50. I understand why a guy like Parks would, but I think that's because a player like Almora hits his blind spots pretty hard (or more accurately, excels at the parts of the game he overrates the most).

What a joke of a response. You asked me to name ONE. So I did. Guess who else? The rest of us. Why? Because there's not a single scout(other than UK) here. It's all we're [expletive] capable of, to be quite honest.

The difference though, is some of us actually LISTEN to what guys who ARE qualified have to say. And dont make [expletive] asinine comments about Almora being Darwin Barney(latest in a very long, hyperbolic line)

Your "one" was incorrect. You don't have to be a scout to look at more than slash lines. That's a terrible answer. And if you stop and think about it for a moment, you'll admit it.

There's this whole universe between "thinking Jason Parks is kinda dumb and wrong sometimes" and "only looking at slash lines."

But there's nothing wrong with saying parks may be full of [expletive] especially since if this was the end if the seasons the doofus would probably have him well out of the top 50

Your prior response was solid. You got it in before mine or else I wouldn't have bothered. I do respect Parks and Law and trust their opinions, based on their actual scouting ability. I learn things reading their stuff. Yes, they can each be insufferable in very different ways, but I do my best to look past it.

But I'll stand by my statement, none of us(other than UK) has shown an ability to break down a swing or pitching mechanics past a very basic level. We can look deep into stats(most here) and some(you included) can bring compelling into to the table. But the scouting side is more important when dealing with guys of this age group, in my opinion. And when filling out our lists or whatever, we look at stats and what the gurus are saying. In the end, I guess our only difference is I listen more than you do to them.

Stats and slash line are not synonymous.

Obviously, and davell may not have done the best job expressing what he meant. That said, there are things that cannot be gleaned from any amount of statistics or statistical analysis. Those things can only make us feel better about poor statistical performance for so long, but I feel we're still well inside that window with Almora.

If people who know their [expletive] say they're not worried about him, I'll take some comfort in that. For now.
