Posted in the Other Games thread, but it's not related to his shoulder. They said rib cage. I don't imagine it will be too series, but you never know. I say he'll miss 1-2 starts.

Cards don't see to care who they throw out there. They are winning all kinds of games right now.

It's Carpenter, dude :-D

How about Kerry Wood's "very minor, day-to-day shoulder stiffness"... or Mark Prior's "minor tendinitis"... how did that work out for us?

:-D

We got a first round draft pick for Wood after we offered him arb.... oh wait.

All I know is that he's likely to miss his start against the Cubs on Sunday. That's good enough for me!

That said, I'd hate to see it be something serious. You have to admire his comeback effort, and would hate to see it be all for nothing.

Yes! I won the office pool. I called his second start would be the one where he went back down!

My buddy's going to be pissed.

Yeah, as much as I hate the Cardinals, you have to admire Carpenter. The guy's a stud when he's healthy. That said, I'm not surprised to see him having problems already. I hope he can come back soon, and all of our "oft-injured" guys can stay healthy as well.

You mean other than last night's, right?

I have a bet with my buddy that Carpenter won't win 10 games this season due to injuries.

MLB.com says it might require a DL stint. Hopefully it just keeps him out through the series with us and hes fine.

Heres the latest from Rotoworld

Chris Carpenter-S-Cardinals Apr. 15 - 8:55 am et

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday night that it looks like Chris Carpenter is "going to be out for a while" with a left rib cage strain.

Carpenter will head to St. Louis Thursday for further assessment by team doctors. It appears he's headed for the disabled list. The Cardinals may call up Mitchell Boggs or try to stretch out reliever Kyle McClellan to fill Carpenter's spot in the rotation. The club could also decide to call up P.J. Walters. Either way, this is a big blow to the Redbirds and fantasy teams alike.

PJ Walters sounds like somebody King Kong Bundy beat in 32 seconds.

If we imagine that PJ stands for Peanutbutter Jelly or Pa Jamas, he sounds more like an old timey baseballer.

Since it isn't his arm, I presume "out for awhile" is going to be something like a few weeks, rather than months.

He'll probably still be back this season to cause us grief.

They better be careful with this. If he starts throwing before it's 100% healed, he could compensate in his delivery and hurt his shoulder/elbow.

I really start to feel bad for guys like this. So much ability, but just can't stay healthy. It's not like it's their fault either really. Guys like Carpenter and Prior just can't seem to catch a break. Well, at least outside of the millions of dollars they've made.

From LaRussa:

"No matter what happened in the game, the big thing is it looks like he(Carpenter) is going to be out for a while. That kind of overwhelms everything else that happened in that game. ... I'm not happy. This is a [expletive] day. I'm not going to fake it."

At GRB I saw a timetable of 5-6 weeks that might be changed to several months, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Still is the best team in the history of baseball.

I can't believe Carp missing time comes as a surprise to anyone. The chances that a guy who has only pitched about 20 innings in the past 2 years would produce a full season were really slim to begin with. It sucks for him that it came on a play like that, but better now than in August/September, IMO. He was going to miss time somewhere. If the Cards can hang on until he comes back, it might not be such a good thing for us.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too.

I'm not surprised Carp is missing time. Has he had trouble with his oblique before? I was thinking his arm/shoulder wouldn't really hold up. Didn't occur to me that his torso would give out :)
