every time i think this team is done they surprise me

They're the anti-Cubs

Seems that way, doesn't it?

Wangs just tied it. I can't stay up to watch this game though. Going to bed a happy human though!

I'm too charged up to go to bed... just passed my final practicals and only have ONE MORE CLASS to go until I am done!

GO DUCKS!

Take it easy, kujay!

I'm trying man! I'm trying. What a game. Drank too much earlier, and wayyyyyyyy too much excitement here!

It takes me until the third, but there is definitely a point where you don't even care who wins, you just want it to be over.

Pretty much.

Bye the way. If I hadn't read Ladd's goal took place before I heard it I'd definitely be evicted. On the other end of things it wasn't as fun to find out about it that way.

I just hope we win Saturday, I'm having a hard time being super excited knowing that they still have home ice.

Still in a tough position with 2 of the next 3 in Vancouver, but that was a well-deserved win. Vancouver was playing to win 1-0 the last 25 minutes or so.

Ehh, the road really hasn't been a problem for us this year.

And frankly they were playing to win 1-0 for pretty much the entire game except for over time.

That's definitely the downside of playing that style of hockey. Did they really think they would shut down Chicago's offense for 60 minutes? OK they almost did but still.

And it's such a weird feeling when it ends. You've been watching for 4 hours, you've been waiting and waiting for a goal to happen for so long that you start thinking that its never going to happen, and then BAM! it happens.

Its a strategy that when done correctly gets you very deep in the playoffs.

Glad to see that they won it, finally.

The problem with the Hawks' attack is that they are too slow to the puck when they dump it and the trap is breaking up carries into the zone. To break the trap, your chasing forwards need to have a head of steam once the puck is dumped in. Since the Hawks like play with long passes, they don't have that speed. If you play dump and chase, you have to chase with speed, otherwise, you have the anemic offense that we saw here in the last two games. Alternatively, you can carry into the zone and use a modified dump and chase, or carry in and break the trap with good cross ice passing or a quick drop pass (overloading one side to clear out the other). The Hawks were most successful when they carried into the zone, drew a Canuck defender out of position and controlled the puck. Unfortunately, the Canucks are very disciplined and don't make this mistake too often.

I will say that the Hawks did the right thing early -- if you can get a lead on the Canucks, they begin to make mistakes when they try to do too much. They just didn't get the goals.

Anyway, this is a long way of saying that Hawks struggled because Vancouver is forcing them to play dump and chase, and they aren't chasing the puck well at all.

Didn't Ryan Dempster say he was a Canuck fan?

He said his 2 favorite teams were the Canucks and Blackhawks, and that he is more of a Canucks fan (grew up rooting for them), but I think the Hawks inclusion is more of a PC thing for him. I'm sure he likes them, but they aren't in the same stratosphere as Vancouver for him.

The TRUE trap is the most awful thing in hockey and we saw it in game 3.

When you have ZERO guys back on the "forecheck" you know you're a sad human being.

They can do better. it's what made the difference for the Penguins in game 3 vs. the Caps. Dump and just go balls to the wall crazy and crash the offensive zone. The Hawks can do the same.

Hell yes I am excited for the rest of the series.

I just got to work and watched the highlights again and was as excited as when it happened. I always tell my wife wins stay with me longer than losses. I could hardly get to sleep last night I was so happy.

There are many ways to split your first two home games in a series, and usually you are left with a negative or meh feel about it. This is probably the best possible way to come out of it with a split.

If the Hawks can find a way to take Game 5, I can't wait to see Monday night with a chance to close them out.

So what does everyone think? Poor strategy by the Canucks trying to kill the game with only a one goal lead?

I could understand doing it up 5-2. But up 1-0? Seems like you have to figure a team like the Hawks is going to be able to push one solitary goal across.

That was an awesome game last night. Luongo was incredible -- and it was even more incredible when we finally got to him!

I don't think it was a poor strategy. It certainly wasn't fan-friendly, but it's not their job to entertain us. Their strategy worked like a champ against the Hawks all night and if not for an amazing hussle play and sweet pass by Ladd, followed by a perfect shot by Havlat, the strategy probably would have led to a win.

I'm still waiting for that game where the Hawks blow up for the first minute and run them out of the building like they did the Flames in one the games, Game 5, I think. It would be nice to see them repeat that effort.

Were does interference figure into the equation for Vancouver?
