I was just thinking about a team that fielded the most annoying/reviled players in the league. Not just to Cubs fans, but overall.

I would start with Pierzynski at catcher, Valverde as closer and Hunter Pence in the OF. That would leave 7 positions and a SP. Any ideas?

3B: Alex Rodriguez, the most overrated, bush-league tool in MLB.

Wait, how is A-Rod overrated?

A-Rod is consistently named by the media - and many fans - as the greatest player of our time, and some argue that he is the greatest of all time since he stands a good chance of breaking the all-time home run record. Rodriguez has put up outstanding numbers, but a lot of that is arguably steroid-induced.

And then there's the post-season argument, which my friend, the Yankee fan, would surely want me to bring up... But since we don't make "clutch" arguments, I'll just stop typing now. 8-[

I can't put too much stock into steroid use considering most of the league most likely did them plus there are other reasons why I don't but that argument has been done and I don't want to get into it.

A-Rod's numbers in the playoffs are pretty good actually. Including his last playoff appearance vs the Indians.

Was Gary Carter really that bad, or is that a personal choice?

Robert Fick is somewhat an obscure choice. I forgot he existed. What did he ever do?

And Ive never heard about Oswalt being a bad guy of any kind.

Id also add Brian Giles. Who the hell refuses to be traded from one of the worst teams in baseball to on of the best just because they want to stay close to home?

Remember the 2003 playoffs?

Bobby Cox too.

Because I'm an unabashed homer, his 2008 season removed Edmonds from any all-douche team, past or future, for me.

I think anyone that played for the 2005 White Sox or 2006 Cardinals (Edmonds depending on your opinion of him) earns douche points from Cubs fans.

Larry Bowa from his playing days deserves a mention.

It's not baseball related, but if the stories about Roberto Alomar not telling his long-term girlfriend that he has AIDS are true, he needs to get a starting nod.

That's weak. I don't understand the hate for a guy who puts maximizing his time with his family while keeping them stable in one town over baseball. I applaud the guy for it. Family is more important, I don't care what job you have.

It's already been mentioned that Fick never played 2b...but I'm amazed no one caught the obvious candidate who should be at the top of everyone's list of dbags at 2b...

Joe Morgan.

Also, while we're at it, if we're doing a whole dbag team, I see no problem with fielding a whole bullpen, starting rotation, and bench.

Carl Mays might belong on that pitching staff. He was the headhunting pitcher who actually ended up KILLING the only major leaguer to die on the field, Ray Chapman, when he hit him in the head with a fastball. Mays showed little remorse for the incident.

This is from the baseball history thread about a year and a half ago:

During the game chat tonight, TruffleShuffle and myself (as the resident Baseball History nerds) came up with an All-Douchebag Team. To qualify they obviously had to be big D-bags and also be very, very good players as well.

Manager: John McGraw

How about adding Brett Myers and Brian Giles to the list for beating the crap out of women? And anyone else who has done that, for that matter.

If we're going all-time Juan Marichal is an absolute must on this list for bashing John Roseboro's skull with his bat.

Posted these pics in History thread a while back. Definitely a must-see for those who have never seen the pics from that incident:

I really wish there was some film footage of that incident, but I don't think there is.

I also think Leo Durocher deserves consideration as manager or a coach, for his irrational hatred of Ernie Banks (I believe it was jealosy over Ernie's popularity) as well as going AWOL on the team during the heat of the pennant race (if I remember correctly it was to visit his future wife's son at summer camp).

Albert Belle probably belongs on the list... Robbie Alomar certainly does, after spitting on that ump (as well as the allegations he purposefully gave HIV to his gf).

I can't recall if Carl Everett was just garden-variety crazy or if there was violence in there either... but any excuse to bring up the fact he doesn't believe in dinosaurs is a good one.

Seeing Everett reminds me. His former teammate Mark "Any Time I Get Lit Up, The Other Team's Cheating" Buehrle should at least be in the conversation for this team.

i don't know if this makes him a d-bag or just a complete idiot, but i remember a time when pedro had a perfect game in the 8th inning while pitching for the expos, and he hit reggie sanders with a pitch, and sanders charged the mound.
