How did Harden look? I missed the entire game.

Excellent. He was missing bats and was hitting 92-93 routinely with the fastball and was able to dial it up to 96-97 when needed.

Did he show any signs of being bothered by that shoulder or whatever it was?

I still can't believe he threw home.

We should slap the next person who says this.

It doesn't matter. It's not Theriot's fault. The game was over when that ball came off Braun's bat, barring a miracle one way or the other.

There's a solid dozen things to be legitimately pissed about after this game. Theriot's defensive error early in the game, Soriano misplaying Weeks double in the 9th, every single move Lou made after pulling Harden... Theriot's decision to throw home in the ninth is not one of them.

Actually it is Theriot's fault, but not for the decision (although he still had a better shot at turning 2). He's at fault because his range is so poor that he was in awful position when he picked that ball up. A shortstop with better range turns 2 on that.

I disagree, I think he had a legitamite shot at getting braun at first if he made the turn to second.

However, you're right, there are dozens of reasons to be pissed that don't involve him in relation to that game.

From what I saw, I don't think Fontenot even gets a throw to first off. It bounced 4 times on the ground before Theriot was able to get to it in the hole. If he had thrown to 2nd, Hart would have been right on top of Fonenot by the time he received the ball and Braun's speed wouldn't have made a difference after Hart takes Fontenot out. I think Theriot made the only play he could there but he just couldn't execute it perfectly to get Weeks at home.

This is pretty much how I saw it too: Hart takes Fontenot out, late relay throw, game over. Going for the play at the plate there is a very defensible decision.

It's too bad Theriot doesn't have a stronger arm - that is the only thing he should be getting ripped for here. Fonzie's bad read on the Weeks drive is the miscue that cost the Cubs the most.

Rich Harden threw today. And his arm is apparently still attached to his body. That alone is enough for me to shake off the loss. We're only 4 in, lot of baseball left to play.

Theriot is what he is. If he's ever truly an average shortstop, that will be a true best case scenario. Isn't like we have much else to run out there though.

I'm no pitching expert, but he looked perfectly fine to me.

His velocity was there and he was hitting his spots - 2 walks, with one of those being semi-intentional (he threw two balls then the next two were intentional). A couple hard hit balls on Hart's HR and Hall's double but that was it.

Im going to go out on a very small limb, and guess Truffle wouldnt be defending Theriots play in the 9th inning had it been Ronny Cedeno who made the play.

He tried to call off outfielders on a flyball into left center.

the outfielder - soriano - got a bad jump on a routine fly ball. you're ripping a shortstop for not making a catch on a lazy fly ball to left field.

Sori didn't get a bad jump. He was badly positioned... which is more the fault of the coaching staff and Lou.

Yeah, he should have been deeper to prevent the double. He looked like he was at normal depth.

why not? it was the right play to throw home there, regardless of who made it. unlike some of you, i'm not looking to jump on anyone when they don't do anything wrong.

Either way would have taken a heroic/lucky effort to throw the man out. I might have gone the other way with it, but I think it's certainly not cut-and-dry enough to say that he screwed up in throwing home.

To me, the most indefensible move of the game was Lou PHing with Miles with Fontenot on 3B and Hill on 1B. I don't get why Lou didn't put Hoffpauir out there. Hell, he could have asked Marmol (a former catcher) to lay down a sac bunt and let Soriano try driving in some runs. The Miles move made no sense.

It's quite simple. Lou Piniella is senile.

Haha, I got home from work and checked the score of the game, read the story, and was like..."Man, I bet they're overreacting so hardcore on NSBB right now."

Sometimes it isn't even fun to be right, this is kinda ridiculous.

Derrek Lee is a 3 run homerun away from being tied for the team lead in RBI. Its way too early for these dumbass posts.

the problem was theriot's indecision. he did NOT go directly home...he thought about turning two. going home was the correct decision, but he wasnt sure of it and it cost him.

Derrek Lee has been awful since last April. How is it too early? Would a 3 run home run by him tomorrow suddenly make him good again?

truffle's cedeno hate/theriot love is ridiculous. get a hold of yourself man, baseball talk is the one place on here that you sometimes refrain from embarrassing yourself.
