The neighborhood would never let a modern group play at Wrigley would they? The people that have the clout grew up listening to the Police, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Jimmy Buffett.

Didn't The Police concert totally eff up the field last year? Why go through that again?

Also, there are few groups of people I hate more than the Wrigleyville Neighborhood Association

The field was destroyed but I think the new surface is supposed to be more resistant to such wear.

I hate that they have concerts at Wrigley. It's a baseball field, not a concert venue.

Did you hate the Winter Classic too? I actually think its cool that they do stuff like this. The atmosphere at Wrigley is just unmatched no matter the event. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the Cubs get a cut of the revenue from these events which can ultimetly help the team.

I didn't have a problem with the winter classic because it was during the offseason. I don't like events going on during the season though. They say the field holds up better since it's been redesigned, but there are still heavy stages and equipment on the field. It's bound to get torn up a little.

stop having horrible acts and maybe i'll be slightly less mad when you f up the field

can't foresee a Wrigley Field Animal Collective show anytime soon. tough luck

The scalpers and those who bought tickets to the Police concert and tried to resell them lost big time. The day of and before they were going for way less than face value.

Heh, funny.

The guy in charge of security/some stadium operations was pretty adamant there weren't going to be any more events like this because of the damage they do to the field. Apparently even the ice rink did some pretty good damage.

They should have just given Phish the show. They at least make a point of asking their concert goers to pick up after themselves. Not that every hippie listens.

I'd rather we think of something that people would sit down and listen to politely but still pay stupid amounts of money for. Can't we just get Obama to have a speech? \:D/

you'd never get the pachouli smell out

Don't worry. Ticketmaster's latest merger should kill concert ticket sales once and for all. The monopoly is in place.

This concert will be through tickets.com, like any other Wrigley event. I wonder what the health of tickets.com is like right now, though. It'd certainly be dead without MLB buying it up, but it still has to be hurting.

Hopefully it stays alive. If Cubs ticket sales were to be turned over to Live Nation Entertainment or whatever they're calling the merger, I can kiss getting all the Cubs tickets I want goodbye.

this piece of ____ tickets.com isn't working right now. once i get past the dreaded virtual waiting room, i cant buy tickets. either high transaction volume message, or it simply knocks me back into the waiting room.

with technology where it is today, how the hell is this possible???

I messed around with tickets.com this morning as a "dry run" for next Friday. I noticed some issues with the Winter Classic and wanted to see if they were a one-time deal. As you noticed, they're not. I'm not sure if they designate extra capacity for the Cubs on sale, but this was uglier than buying cubs tickets over the last few years.

Here's a tip, though. Save this link as a bookmark:

javascript:void(document.onmousedown=null);void(document.onclick=null);void(document.oncontextmenu=null)

Tickets.com won't let you right-click to go back to the previous page, but if you end up getting sent back to the VWR or get an HTTP error message AFTER you get through the VWR, you can go up to bookmark the link, open it, and it will allow you to right-click and go back to the previous page. At least in firefox. Not sure about IE. This seemed to get back to the ticket selection or security code page 90% of the time.

Or maybe the back button. I'm not sure I even tried that...

looks like rascal flatts and other country junk are rumored to be at wrigley on july 18th.

Well, there's a second Elton John and Billy Joel concert on July 16, too.

This is getting out of hand. I can understand doing one "headlining" concert a year at Wrigley. I don't necessarily approve based on how the field gets torn up, but I get it.

But Rascall Flats? Seriously? They're awful in ways that I can't describe with the written word.

They make me want to

. In fact, I
them.

Hope that helps.

The Rascall Flats concert has been approved.

trib"]The Chicago Cubs today received final approval from the City Council to hold three concerts this summer at Wrigley Field.

Although the Southport Neighbors Association opposed allowing more than two concerts, Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) signed off on the plan, saying he would work to “minimize the concerns of the community at large.”

Southport Neighbors holds its annual festival in July on the same weekend that country band Rascal Flatts will play on a Saturday (July 18). The following week, Billy Joel and Elton John will team up for weeknight concerts at Wrigley.

The Cubs initially booked just Joel and John for one night, adding Rascal Flatts to make it a profitable package for a promoter. But the one-night stand became a two-date run after Joel and John quickly sold out the baseball stadium.

Trib"]Kenney defended the expanded revenue-generating projects in and around Wrigley Field, saying "it sounds odd but Elton John will help us win ballgames," he said."CBOE [sponsorship] paid for Rich Harden."

Kenney also said the Blackhawks game at Wrigley Field helped and that the NHL will pay for re-sodding Wrigley Field before opening day

"We have to be as aggressive off the field as on," he said..

Other than not having any interest in seeing these people or listen to their music, I don't understand the problem with having them. Sporting venues host concerts all the time, why can't Wrigley?
