I think Bob Costas is about the only big name broadcaster that I agree with on the steroid issue.

What does he say about it?

The main thing he suggests is that you let these guys in the Hall of Fame. His point is that there was a steroid era as well as a dead ball era, a segregated era, live ball, a higher mound, etc. He thinks they should put something in the Hall that talks about these eras and the dates included and let people make their own judgement about the numbers. Thus, guys like Bonds, Clemens, et al get in, but people that know the history of the game know that many players had an advantage during the time they played (though often alongside and against players using the same advantages).

You guys can defend A-Rod all you like, but I find it amusing to see him twist in the wind a little. His story's coming apart a little bit. And he's already basically admitted what he said about that Sports Illustrated writer was crap. Twist, twist in the wind!

forgive me if this has been discussed here already. actually, don't. i don't have time to read every post before i post something. anyways, i'm rambling...

arod admitted to injecting something, right? something that he wasn't sure what it was. he also said "i knew we weren't taking tic-tacs." tic-tacs, obviously, are taken orally. did he accidentally admit to something else, without realizing it?

A little bit? His story has come apart like the Hindenburg. He should have just admitted he used them and left it at that.

i thought so. but unless i missed something (which i doubt, considering all the attention this story has got) the media didn't pick up on this.

That's because reading anything into that statement at all is preposterous.

not really. it would be kind of weird for him to compare an injection to tic tacs.

I really don't expect professional athletes to make good analogies. I think that statement is about as innocuous as it gets.

what? no it's not, that's absurd.

that's the same thing as me admitting to smoking weed. "i know that i smoked weed, and i'm sorry. i just don't know what kind of weed it was. i'll tell you one thing though, i know it wasn't heroin that i was shooting into my vein."

god i know right, athletes are so stupid and we should just assume that they're all borderline [expletive].

You've got that backwards. If you want to use a terrible analogy, at least make sure it matches up.

Steroids > Tic-Tac

Heroin > Weed

At any rate, tic-tacs are as innocuous an object as there is, and many people use them in reference that way... not in a strict "I ingested something through an oral cavity" meaning.

Not really. He obviously was using "tic-tacs" as a euphemism for something innocent. Its not that baseball players make bad analogies it that you guys are crazy.

I heard he actually got $10 million from Tic-Tacs to say that just to create a buzz around Tic-Tacs. For some strange reason now I feel like purchasing Tic-Tacs. The orange ones are the best.

Well, let's put is this way: ARod didn't take the time to craft his analogy carefully enough to avoid confusing those feverishly obsessed with dissecting every statement to extract or illuminate hidden meaning.

Better?

You know, if the Players Association had any balls I'd just fast track the release. Vote on it right now. There are a small number of 104 players from 5 years ago who are on the list who will vote no. Everyone else who isn't using their own PED's has nothing to fear.

A way to say "look, this was the last generation, lets talk about all the current talent who weren't on the list and have been tested since they stepped in the minors"
