I'll always remember the time Ryan Theriot unnecessarily dove for a ball and then from his back lobbed the ball into RF. BRAINDEAD MORON.

Ryan Theriot doesn't have anything to do with Ronny Cedeno being a dumb baseball player.

Bruce piling on Cedeno too? Always love when teams/media taking parting shots at guys that have been shipped out.

i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something?

oversliding the bag isn't idiotic?

It was a mistake. It happens more than people let on. I don't really see how it's "idiotic".

I think it was a big deal becuase A) it was the tying run in the 9th inning (I think, maybe the tying run was the person who just walked), B) Cedeno had already started a reputation of being aloof, C) Some people may go past second on a walk, but very very few get thrown out, and D) This was during the start of the 06 Cubs collapse

It was 07

'06, 2 outs, can't wait to find out this happened in a playoff game.

Because it was a 3-2 count with 2 outs there is no need to slide because

1. The batter makes an out either a ball in play or K, inning over

2. The batter walks, he moves to second and even if their is a throw that beats him he is still safe

3. The batter fouls off a pitch, he goes back to first

4. The batter gets a hit, in which case sliding into second is completely idiotic because he could potentially advance to 3B or even score if he stays on his feet and sees where the ball is going

Actually, Cedeno made the 2nd out.

But regardless, many guys slide into 2nd (or 3rd) even when they don't have to. It's the fastest way to get to the base and (usually) not go past it. Still isn't idiotic.

I wonder if this means Marshall is likely to go in a potential Peavy trade and Hendry sees Heilman filling in for Marshall as the swingman and guy to back up Harden

Like many of you I wonder how this deal effects a potential Peavy trade. As much as I like Marshall, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to include him in a deal for Peavy, now that Olsen is no longer a Cub.

is this is a competition of who made the most stupid plays? i think cedeno would blow the competition away if so.

Was it really a 3-2 count? I don't remember. Why did the catcher even throw it then?

It was a 3-2 count, but there was only 1 out, I thought there was 2. So a slide was warranted, but still he should have been looking in to see if the pitch was a strike/ball because he could have let up once he saw it was a ball.

Isringhausen was helped when pinch-runner Ronny Cedeno was called out at second on a bizarre play for the second out. With Cedeno running, a 3-2 pitch to Jacque Jones was called a ball but Yadier Molina threw to second and shortstop David Eckstein tagged Cedeno when he overslid the bag.

Without Marshall, the options for LHPs are sparse. I don't personally think that's a big deal, since we have a number of RHPs who can get lefties out effectively, but Hendry has had way too much of a fascination with handedness this offseason.

So sue me, I mixed up 06 with the mediocre first half of the 07 season.

We are all arguing degree of deficiency here. Some say "idiotic", some say "dumb", some say "not the smartest"...... Its all a matter of the adjective that you want to use.

And how many players in professional sports actually get thrown out sliding past second base on a walk? I'm guessing the odds of it happening during a ballgame are pretty astronomical. And then to admit that you didn't know there was a rule that you couldn't pass 2nd base? That is getting into Michael Barrett territory.

In regard to Bruce, pointing out one of many "insert adjective for Cedeno's deficiency" mistakes over the course of his time with the Cubs isn't piling on. Piling on would be if he took the time to list multiple instances.

If Heilman is the answer I don't want to know the question unless it is "Who did we trade to get Jake?"

Hendry's infatuation with players is really, really, really, weird.

How about, none of the above. He was hustling and overslid the bag. He slid without knowing the result of the pitch, If it's not ball 4 nobody remembers it even happened.

he was hustling, lol? he was trying to steal, he should've been "hustling". that doesnt mean it wasnt an idiotic play.

It's not an idiotic play. Suppose Molina airmails the ball and Ronny ends up scoring. Who made the idiotic play Molina or Cedeno? I mean Molina threw the ball down to second when he shouldn't have.

it was a freakish play with a bad result.

Please, stop the nonsense.

A mistake? I mean, it's not like the only 2 adjectives you can use to describe a play are "idiotic" and "unlucky".

I remember this one time Ronny flew out to CF. Idiot.

Wasn't that the time where Theriot was on third and was thrown out tagging up because the fly ball was too shallow?

On second thought and after reading many of your posts, I think if the Pads would be willing to take Heilman instead of Marshall, that by far would be a better trade for the Cubs.
