Angelo says he made a play at Anquan Boldin and tried to move up in the 2nd round, but neither happened.

It was the first time since 1978 the Bears did not make a pick in the first two rounds. Angelo said the Bears made an attempt to trade for disgruntled Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

“Nothing was able to get resolved,” Angelo said.

Angelo wouldn’t reveal details of the talks, but said he assumes the deal is dead because, “I felt like if it was going to happen, it would have happened today.”

The Bears had interest in Oregon defensive back Jarius Byrd, wide receiver Brian Robiskie of Ohio State and a defensive end, according to Angelo, but all went earlier in Round 2.

Angelo said the Bears made attempts to move up in Round 2 and select those and other players, but failed.

“There was absolutely no way we were able to move up,” he said. “That’s the hardest place to get to in the draft is that top half of the second (round) because those are the best buys. Those are the players where you really get a great deal.”

Hmm....Angelo may feel the deal is dead but I read that as there is still a possibility that something could happen. It's trickier now without a 2nd rd pick, but perhaps something could still happen. I'm not holding my breathe, but I didn't see a flat out "deal is dead" definitive statement...

I think the Titans need to definitely look at corners early tomorrow (DJ Moore, Mike Mickens and Keenan Lewis are probably the best players there).

If not a corner in round 3, I'd probably like to see a linebacker (Marcus Freeman or Dannell Ellerbee would be nice) or a center (Luigs, Shipley, Caldwell would all be fantastic additions).

Other than that I think they'll look to beef up the offensive line (especially a tackle to replace Daniel Loper), look for running back depth and maybe get a little more depth at safety (Courtney Greene if he falls?) the rest of the draft.

I'm happy so far and Reinfeldt has shown he's strong on the second day (Cortland Finnegan, William Hayes, Leroy Harris, Keith Vickerson, etc).

Nah at this point they are just going to use the picks and stock up on players. As nice as it would be to have Boldin they need to fill a bunch of holes. They need a WR, DT, and safety in terms of starters but it would be nice to have another corner, OL, DE, and LB to add depth to the roster and try to fill in for people for the year after next.

Yeah unless we can get an absolute steal on Boldin at this point I wouldn't worry about it. We've got 9 picks to load up on future starters and some much needed depth. I actually would like to see Angelo use some of those 5-6-7 round picks and get another pick in the 3rd or 4th round to load up on possible starting talent.

I really don't think that Arizona was intending on Boldin going anywhere unless they were wowed by what they received in return. They think that they believe (rightfully so) that they have a very solid chance to be in the super bowl again this year and Anquan is a large part of the reason why. Their window, with the team that they have right now, is very small due to Warner being old so they are probably fine with pissing off Boldin and having him underpaid to get another shot at a championship. If they get to the Super Bowl again and lose Boldin to free agency without getting anything for him the Cardinals with be overjoyed. Doesn't he have 2 years left on his deal anyways?

PCP, another reason to like Kenny Britt:

Britt also had another connection with the Titans organization, as he trained in Arizona at API with Denver Broncos great Rod Smith, whom Heimerdinger coached for a number of years there.

“He really helped me on my board work and everything. He came down there three times a week to work out with me,” Britt said. “I thank the Lord for that, and I thank Rod that he took his time to work with me.

Heimerdinger said he quizzed Smith about Britt’s work ethic and smarts to get a better read on him.

“Rod and I talked. He told me about his work ethic and the way Kenny had worked for him, and the things that he tried to help Kenny with,” Heimerdinger said. “He said Kenny did all the things he tried to help him with and improve on. We had talked and did the background on him. I really wanted to find out from Rod what his work ethic was like, plus his brain, and Rod said he handled everything good in everything and every challenge he gave him.”

TE Cornelius Ingram is still floating around out there in round 3. I'll be interested to see where he ends up - if the Titans get him I'll be thrilled.

Michael Johnson is another player with 1st round talent who has dropped for other reasons.

Yeah, I believe Boldin's locked up through 2011.

Ingram and/or Johnson would be great gets for the Packers. Like I said, I'd be very happy if we tried to move back in the third round tomorrow to nab a guy like Johnson.

At this point you can do both if you are aggressive. You could theortically take the 3rd round pick from Seattle (which is an early 3rd round pick) and next's years 2nd to get Bolden, and then then you can a trade to get back into the lower half of the 3rd round. I read that the whole article about Angelo's interests in Bolden and it imo it was more about the future contract of Bolden more so then giving up picks that gave Angelo pause.

"I can't say we have the same mentality,'' Angelo said, referencing the difference between the Cutler and Boldin talks. "It's not just the compensation [this time]. It's the money too.''

Again it's more about do Angelo want to commit to $9 mill to $10 mill per for a reciever? Otherwise, I think Angelos would have pull off the Bolden deal.

I'm not saying it can't happen, and most likely the Bears are prolly going to draft Iglesias or Murphy, but anything can happen.

Arizona has all the leverage regarding Boldin and now they can't get much value at all for him. Just work it out already you idiots.

I still maintain a straight up trade of Tommie Harris for Anquan Bolden is the best way to go in trades. The Bears get their reciever, and the Cards get an impact DLine who hasn't reached his prime.

You mean an unstable, inconsistent, injury prone DT that is already making a ton of money?

There is no way that the Cardinals are going to take what equates to 2 3rd rounders for Boldin. If that was all they wanted he would have been gone a long time ago.

Not necessarily. Yes they do have some leaverage in trade talks because Bolden is still under contract, BUT two of the best trade opportunities went down today when the Giants (Hicks) and the Eagles (Maclin) elected to address their WR needs via the draft.

Another thing, the Cards do not want to have their own Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson situation happen within their organization. While I do not believe Bolden would distract the team, he would definately continually ask out.

Again I am not saying it will happen, but stranger things have happen and I've learned---after the Cutler trade---just to set back and let it play out.

Or somebody who needs a change of scenery.....it goes both ways.

Remember what happened with Briggs during his last year in Chicago before his contract expired? That is what is going to happen with Boldin. They have the same agent, they are using the same tactics, and they are going to have same result. When training camp comes around he is probably going to hold out (who cares, cuts down on wear and tear anyways) and when the season starts he is going to play cause he and his agent want their money. Boldin doesn't have anywhere near the personality of Chad Johnson and even when he was complaining about his contract during the season last year he wasn't doing so in a way that was creating a distraction.

No way Boldin goes without a first round pick being included in the deal.

Considering they have alledgely lower the asking price down to second rd pick plus considerations, I say they could trade Bolden without getting a first rd pick.

I didn't say he would disrupt the team like Chad Johnson has down, but Cincinnati had gotten "supposedly" an offer of two first rd picks for OchoCinco last yr and Mike Brown turned down that offer. But a year older and Johnson has not even remotely gotten an offer to even get Mike Brown to trade Chad. IMO it's a case of holding onto a player a yr too late. Same thing can happen Bolden. Have a subpar yr next yr, and nobody will offer anything more then a 3rd rd pick for the soon to be FA. This is a case of do Arizona want to sell now and get something valuable while Bolden is still valuable, or do you run the risk of Bolden either have a subpar yr or suffer a season ending injury and lose all value for him? But the question I think Arizona is asking themselves is that if they decide to trade Bolden, will Breaston and/or Doucet step up and replace him in the lineup? One last question ask themselves, by drafting a RB like Beanie Wells, does that mean Bolden or Fitz lose touches during the game? I mean there are questions they have to be ask.

I say this knowing that Bolden is more likely to stay in Arizona, but I have seen anything definitive that says any Bolden deal is "dead", only Angelo saying he "assumes" the deal is dead. BTB, I think Bears will draft either Murphy or Iglesais tomorrow instead of trading for Bolden.

jarron gilbert would be nice. the guy is great at getting into the backfield and disrupting things, which is what we need. i think he is an end, though.

He could play as a somewhat small DT. He's got the quickness and agility.

we could use him in either place. we need guys who can get to the passer real bad.
