I won't be helping you out there. I'm definitely going to try to make my first trip out there this year.

I've got this vision in my head of Cutler trying to make it through the little fence-path to the practice field, and people are climbing all over each other to try to get autographs. It has the potential to be both nightmarish and hilarious at the same time.

With Cutler-mania and hopefully a pretty fun season coming up, I was thinking we should give windycityfootball.com another shot... maybe sort of a "re-launch" for week one or training camp or something?

I'd be willing to help out.

That, or it would be cool to get an NFL sub-forum on NSBB.

it really never took root over there because people were just posting here instead. The TD Derby contest I ran a couple seasons ago was fun though (despite only about a dozen people playing)

What I'm trying to figure out before next football / basketball season is how I can:

1) create one big mambo database for all the Chicago sports

2) create separate forums for each of the sports within the database

3) create groups to allow people to subscribe to the content in which they are interested

4) create a nice interface within the control panel (and at signup) to allow people to easily subscribe / unsubscribe

5) create a separate portal / domain for each team that would default to only that sport / team

6) create an overall Chicago sports portal / homepage that would default to all sports / teams

the question would be whether or not I include the sox. :D

Of course, I've looked into this a little bit already and have come across several problems I simply have no idea how to solve.

I know im a Brewer fan so my comment doesn't mean as much :).

BUT, I love having all the football and basketball talk all here. Its alot easier, and I belive you get more people talking about it having it at NSBB.com

I really liked WCF and I definitely think it got a really decent following in 2007. Instead of piling all the info into one thread like this one, I like the idea of seperate discussions in separate threads. Honestly I've looked around the web and I've never found a decent Bears message board that's worth posting at besides this forum, so the Bears should really at least get their own subforum. As for the Bulls, they do have a couple of good forums, and myself and several posters here post at RealGM so I'd be much less enthusiastic about that forum.

Yeah, at the very least there should be separate forums for the "local" teams (other than the Sox). I think since there is a majority of fans for those teams (Bears/Bulls/Illini) on this board, it can be a bit frustrating for fans of other teams to deal with the "general" sports threads. I am an Illini fan, but some of the Illini fans here are intolerable homers. The same goes for the Bears.

Raiders’ Huff Could Be Cut If He Doesn’t Win Starting Job

Posted by Aaron Wilson on June 22, 2009, 7:32 p.m. EDT

Oakland Raiders safety Michael Huff might not want to get too attached to his helmet, shoulder pads and roster spot, which has reportedly become tenuous.

Huff lost his starting job last season to Hiram Eugene. And the former No. 7 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft could find himself on the chopping block if he doesn’t reclaim a starting job this season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Huff has only intercepted one career pass in three seasons and 39 starts.

Citing sources, the report stated that Raiders owner Al Davis’ patience is wearing thin, adding that Huff “has yet to show signs of figuring things out this offseason.”

Huff is playing under a six-year, $43 million contract that included $16 million in guaranteed money.

Huff, 26, was a consensus All-American at the University of Texas who won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back.

Might we be interested in taking a flyer? Don't know that much about him or how he would fit into our scheme...

I was a huge Huff fan coming out of college (as were plenty of people), and I don't think I'd have any problem giving him a shot in TC. I'm pretty confident in our D this year as a whole, but I still think our DB situation could use the most upgrading. Give him a shot.

I like Huff too. I don't know if the Bears would be interested because they have a lot of bodies in the defensive backfield, though they aren't deep there.

-At the S positions, you have Bullocks, Payne, Steltz, Graham, Earl, and Afalava.

-At CB you have Tillman, Vasher, Moore, Bowman, and McBride. You also have to throw Manning in one of these groups as the nickel.

Of those 12 names, probably only 9-10 make the team. If they signed Huff, then there's a logjam at S. Bullocks and Earl were just signed and have starting experience (Earl under the Bears DB coach). Afalava is a potential practice squad guy, but he's pretty talented and the Bears would risk him being snatched away. They could move Graham to CB, but I don't think you can cut any of the CBs on the roster. Bowman has been great in camp, but he and Vasher are serious injury risks. Tillman also has some risk.

Huff is probably the best of the bunch at S, though, and if they are willing to quickly discard Bullocks and/or Earl for him, I wouldn't be upset. I'd imagine McBride would be fighting for a spot also if Huff were to be signed. I personally, don't think the Bears take the shot.

I think there's room at this site to create a football subforum with the Bears getting their own dedicated page for discussion. I lost interest at Windy City over a period of time. For me, I think a lot of it had to do with the comfort level of the settings of the forums themselves. I like the way NSBB currently flows, but never liked the way it was set up at Windy City.

Yea no offense to Tim, but I was never quite sure why it wasn't just set up here as a subforum.

That's the terrible official Bears website message board. Just about as bad as Cubs.com was.

I'm pretty sure that was just the latest version of the software, which Tim subsequently upgraded NSBB to. So, as of now, it's pretty much the same. I think.

There is some good info and on RARE occasion good discussion, but you have to weed through a TON of crap to get to it. And most of the discussion is garbage.

It's a good place to look for the latest articles, too, as there are one or two posters who are pretty on top of posting any links as they come up.

Yeah, you might be right about that. I might have been using a different skin for the different forums, and I hated the one I was using at WCF and I really like the one I'm using here at NSBB.

It was still about a comfort level for me, though.

Yeah, you just have to know the posters who provide some value, and ignore the rest of the riff raff.

That said, I haven't been over there in months.

I like the 'freeness' of the Bears discussion in this thread/forum. Some stuff isnt worth a new thread, things intertwine well in here without cluttering. WCF didnt really work for me.

Huff. Ran a 4.34 at the combine, Jerry has got to love that. His 1st 2 years at oakland they had him at SS which he is undersized for, last year he was at FS before losing his job in the final 5 games. I would definetly take a flyer at the expense of losing Bullocks.

Yeah, I don't see the need for new threads all the time. Nor do I see myself bothering to check different forums. There are individual Bears games threads, offseason, training camp, etc. I'd prefer it centered from here, whether it stays in social or goes to a new Chicago sports teams section.
