I'm surprised you guys would want 2 guys who are virtually Terrell Owens clones. Great on the field, horrible off the field.

Plaxico is still a top 10-15 WR, who has clearly demonstrated that he can carry an offense and make big plays.

I'm trying to find 10 WRs better than Plax...

Fitzgerald

Andre Johnson

Marshall

Calvin Johnson

Moss

Wayne

Steve Smith

Jennings

And then I'd probably put Plax with WRs like TO, Boldin, Roddy White, Welker, etc.

But he quite definitely gives us that tall leaping WR with big play ability that Cutler sorely needs as a target. Combine him with a pure speed deep ball threat in Hester, a possession receiver in Bennett (hopefully) or Davis, and 2 pass catching TEs in Olsen and to a lesser extent Clark, and you have quite a versatile group of WRs for Cutler to throw to. All we need is that big time receiver. With him we look pretty solid at WR, without him we look awful.

Yeah, I didn't go thru the list. I estimated Plax between the 9th-13th best. Those 8 names are definitely better. TO and Boldin can be argued as better. But I like Plax more than Welker or White, but all those guys are in the same group.

As for Calvin Johnson vs. Marshall, again a preference thing. Marshall's better after the catch, but you gotta give Johnson his props for what he has done for the worst team in NFL history, with all their QB issues.

I don't think there's any way that the Broncos trade Marshall to the Bears. That's all bad for them. If Cutler and Marshall together just start lighting things up, the Broncos are going to forever have to deal with the talking heads ripping them for sending two young talented guys to the Bears. What if the Bears win a Super Bowl with them? Just from a PR standpoint, that move would be terrible for the Broncos. I don't see it happening.

Ive never given a crap about a guys attitude or if he's a "good guy" or anything like that, just give me someone who can play.

If he lands in jail or is suspended for multiple games, you'll care.

And I agree with Banedon, the Broncos can't afford to trade Marshall to the Bears.

i will say for me it's harder to get past domestic battery types of allegations. it's one thing to be a moron, but it's another to be a wife-beater (girlfriend, fiance, whatever), IMO. as much as I'd love to have Marshall's talent on the Bears, i admit i'd have a hard time looking past it.

I would have to agree. Marshall beats women. Plaxico shot himself and is late to meetings.

Guys who beat women also tend to keep beating women. I looked up Marshall on wikipedia out of curiosity -- his list of infractions leads me to believe the best choice of team for him would be the Bengals or the Raiders.

So much Cutler hate out there....

http://www.cbssports.com/columns/story/11861995?tag=untagged

It's one thing when a supposed star in Cutler -- a puffed-up, overrated star -- requests a trade. That's solely one player making such a demand. But there's something strange occurring when a second star, a legitimate one in Marshall, wants to play elsewhere. That's a huge deal and it's indicative of a serious problem within an organization that was for years one of the better run in the league.

So the receiver is the star and the QB who gets him the ball is a farce?

LM: There have been a lot of rumors about the Bears possibly being interested in free-agent receiver Plaxico Burress, whose court case on Monday was adjourned until September. What can you say about the situation?

JA: I’ve said this and I’ll just be consistent: We’re always looking at players who we feel can help our football team. Plaxico Burress is a special player. Who wouldn’t like to have the guy on their football team? So we’re certainly not an island in that thinking . But he’s got some circumstances that he’s dealing with, and they’ve been well-documented. I’ll just leave it at that

Yep. Haven't you heard? QBs who request trades but are otherwise good citizens are puffed up, immature babies.

Repeat offenders who beat women and spend as much time in a police car as they do on the football field -- it's serious business if they request a trade!

Now if Woody Paige is correct (and I know he is Denver's version of Jay Mariotti, Skip Bayless, or some random idiot), I think most Denver fans would have no problem dumping the "diva."

I know it is a Woody Paige article, but some of these "incidents" that Marshall have been involve with has me thinking twice about trying to acquire him. I would not part with anything higher then a 4th rd pick for this "diva." Right now, I think I prefer Plax over Marshall.

I'm not saying they won't trade him. I'm saying they won't trade him to the Bears because of the awful PR potential of Cutler and Marshall both having a chance to succeed, together, on another team.

Again, maybe my point was too subtle, but the point I was trying to make was if the Broncos fans want him gone I doubt they'll care if it's the Bears or not. Getting Marshall off their team seem to be their priority.

With that said, I believe I read somewhere that Cleveland might have interests in Marshall. So......

Baltimore has been mentioned also. They won't care that it's the Bears unless Marshall has a great season catching passes from Cutler. It's like they can say "good riddance" to Cutler right now, but after a season of Orton/Simms, they may feel a bit differently. Maybe I'm giving the Broncos too much credit...maybe they don't have the foresight to see potential PR issues down the road...I'll just be surprised if the Bears end up with Marshall.

And honestly, after that Paige article, I'm not sure I really want the guy. He's a habitual offender...I guess I didn't realize just HOW habitual. Plaxico is an angel in comparison.

agreed. i'm no expert, but it seems guys like this tend to be habitual offenders. i would be very skeptical that someone like that would ever change unless he underwent serious counseling.

He's not going to suddenly change because he comes to Chicago, that's for sure. Looking at the list, it seems like he's been given light punishment for many of those, too -- which to me just tends to reinforce the behavior.

I'm fairly certain we will eventually see Marshall's name in the headlines again for something criminal. I'd rather it not be with Chicago, after looking a bit closer. I wasn't aware of the size of his rap sheet. It's pretty extensive.

He won't land in jail this season, and he was already suspended last year. If he's suspended again this year, Burress for 12 games is > most (all?) of our other WRs for 16.

Just playing Devil's Advocate: what if it's 8? Goodell likes the feeling of wielding a mighty hammer.

I'd take Plax, but I also think it's foolish to simply dismiss a player's off the field behavior and only evaluate based on football talent. There's pretty much 2 teams left that do that, and they are both perennially horrible.

There's a long list of players who wound up hurting their teams badly because they couldn't live like decent human beings outside football. A lot of great football talent winds up sitting the sidelines and watching from home because of off-the-field issues.

Posted
But he was already suspended four games. You're thinking he's going to get 12 overall? Highly unlikely, even for Goodell. Stallworth won't even get that much and he killed a guy and is serving jail time.

Who was suspended 4 games?

Plaxico.
