Cool. Now we can have flags thrown on every kickoff.

Might be a better time to go grab a beer during a kickoff rather than during commercial. At least the commercial has an opportunity to be entertaining.

Run two different two-man wedges with good spacing moving along different angles.

Yeah. Make sure you bring your geometric calculator to practice, young man. We're going to discuss attack angles and spacing theory to avoid kickoff penalties.

Hmmm, I would think a lot of our return success is built upon blocking, and not just Hester/Manning. That hurts.

So whats our biggest strength now, blocked field goals?

A tie between:

1. Blue collar work ethic

2. Playing in Bear weather

They should call each year's batch of new rules by their true name: the next step in making Bear football philosophy unplayable.

They aren't the offseason meetings. They're the "destroy Bear football inch by inch" meetings

Bear football philosophy has been unplayable for 20 years. Maybe these rule changes will force them to adapt.

Seriously, an offensive philosophy that relies on special teams to score your points is a bad philosophy. The Bears should be able to run an offense that can sustain 80-yard drives to score points.

This special teams stuff wasn't a rule the past couple years, and the Bears still mediocred themselves all over the field.

Hasn't worked so far, why would this newest set suddenly do the trick?

This tidbit from ESPN's NFL blog may make some of you Bear fans happy.

Chicago has scheduled a private workout with Rutgers receiver Kenny Britt this week, according to Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. The Bears have been focusing heavily on receivers during their pre-draft scouting activities.

Here's Vaughn McClure's story that Seifert linked to.

The Bears have really pigeon holed themselves in the draft. They don't have enough OL or WR to even field a complete team. If they don't sign a FA out of the blue, then they have to draft both positions pretty early. This is exactly how you end up reaching for players and screwing up a draft.

That being said, I really like Britt. Rather him or Robiske or Nicks more than the more flashy guys like Maclin, DHB, or Harvin.

I don't know much about Britt. I guess I'll have to try to educate myself a bit if the Bears are showing interest. I'd love Maclin though. I'm still not sure Robiske will translate.

Seems like they'll probably wait and pick up some other teams garbage after the first roster cuts. Something they probably could have done with Marty Booker last year, but gave him a guaranteed contract instead.

This team needs an impact player or two on offense. I just don't have a lot of faith in our current receiver tandem or our QB, for that matter.

I too wish the Bears did more this offseason, its effecting the draft. Its not too late though, some decent WR available.

I like Nicks a lot but im not sure he will last til the 2nd round for the Bears.

Jackson from LSU sounds like an Alex Brown type, solid but not spectacular. I like Maybin a lot but i dont know if he will be available at 18. Johnson sounds like the pass rusher the Bears would like to have.

During the last 5 years, don't the Bears have the third or fourth-best winning percentage only behind NE, Indy, and the Giants?

Playoffs or regular season?

I would presume he's attempting to equate regular season success to overall success, since all those other teams have won the Super Bowl.

Pit, Philly and Dallas have more wins during that time as well, and they are tied with Carolina. Multiple teams are right on their tail.

Does anyone know if there's anything to the character concerns that have been raised about Britt?

He ran a 4.4 at his pro day, and he's got size. Physically he looks very gifted as a receiver who can do more than just try to run deep routes down the sideline. We've already got Hester for that, so in terms of skillset, Britt looks like a nice fit.

I think people who think Hester is just a fly route WR are mistaken. Obviously, he's only played WR for 2 years, and one of those years he was strictly a fly route type. But I thought at the end of last year, he showed he can run the entire route tree. I don't think the Bears did a good enough job of getting him the ball on crossing routes and slants, but I think you will see more of that in 09.

Still don't see true #1 potential. Maybe for a typical Bears offense he's good enough for a #1, but that actually means a average to good #2.

When I think of Hester's routes the first thing I think of are all those short slants they throw him all the time.
