When we "pulled out" on Peavy, everybody talked about how it was understandable given that starting pitching is a luxury for us. Why are we now talking about Lowe?

If we're going to add a SP then it should be because a great opportunity presented itself and we'd be foolish to pass it up; not because we have battered-wife syndrome from last October.

Forget Lowe. Sign Bradley.

Since the Yankees have already gotten Sabathia and Burnett, they're probably not looking for another large deal involving a starting pitcher. Sheets or Pettitte? Sure, they won't require the 4 year deal Lowe most likely will........

I'm fairly sure the Red Sox have already said they don't have an interest in Lowe as well. He just left the Dodgers and they don't appear to be showing interest either......

My gut feeling is Hendry is doing Boras a solid here and acting like we're interested when we're probably not. To get the large deal Boras is seeking for Lowe, you almost have to have some major market team "interested" and I'm not sure there is one right now with Lowe. I'd love to find a way to get him and a starting RFer as well, but I don't see it being all that likely......

Of course, with all the major market teams slipping off the radar here, maybe Lowe's price will come down some and we can find a way to snag him.

Lowe does not deserve anywhere near what he is asking for. He should get a 2 year deal worth about 28 million. But someone will cave in and give him 3 years at 48 million. He's old.

Nobody deserves that kind of money, even if they rescue a burning school bus full of orphans.

However, its not about deserving, its about supply and demand, and if teams are willing to pay that much money, players are going to demand it.

What if he or she were to cure cancer?

I'm sorry but I disagree. Everybody deserves that kind of money. And if you had the opportunity for that "kind of money" you would do go for it.

What are you talking about? He didn't say he wouldn't take the money. Very few would say that. He is commenting that the act of playing baseball is not so noble a task that they should all be millionaires. His supply and demand is correct. There are only so many extremely talented players, and when the owners have the money, they will blink.

I think at this point Hendry should sit down with Marquis and make him the following offer: The Cubs will pay him $3 MM per year for the next three years, as long as he doesn't pitch for us. His previous contract is voided and he effectively becomes a free agent. If he's signed by another team, the Cubs will continue to pay his $3 MM annual salary. Apparently this would free up enough money to allow the Cubs to sign Peavy, Bradley, Lowe, Pujols, Halladay, and that guy in Bases Loaded for NES who had 61 home runs.

I think a school bus full of burning orphans may disagree with you.

I don't think that the Cubs are actually serious about getting Lowe, but if they were I don't think they'd be able to afford a FA RF as well. So if they did sign Lowe, then I'd propose a trade like Jason Marquis and $3 million, Mark DeRosa, Felix Pie, and Kevin Hart for Delmon Young. Who knows if MINN would do it, but I'm just saying that marquis would need to be gone, and we'd probably have to trade for a RF instead of signing one. I say we just try and sign Bradley.

Didn't you see "I Am Legend"? No good can come from trying to cure cancer, silly!

Brutal. Absolutely brutal.

The Twins would do that in a frigging heartbeat. They'd think Jim Hendry was kidding, then they'd sign it.

Delmon Young sucks.

It's not hard to figure out. Right now we have room to sign a RF. If we move Marquis, we can get another starter along with the RF. It's simple.
