Nothing like having Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory talk trash to you about something he has no control over, huh?

And your post was going so well.

That's what I get for playing for style points, I guess. Who cares if it hurt me in the human polls, though. The computers loved me.

SSR is a hater.

True, but he had a point. I guess that "stuck in front of my work computer at 9pm on a Monday night facing a severe budget deficit and wishing I had done anything else" was probably not the mindset with which I should have visited this forum... or read anything that Meph has to say.

is it possible for alabama and florida to both lose this week?

I'm starting to lean towards rooting for Florida to win and get somehow hosed out of the #2 spot in the BCS, because that's about as likely a positive scenario as any.

i may just end up rooting for the team whose fans aren't complete d-bags... problem is, they keep trying to out d-bag each other.

Penn State and Holy Cross suck. OU stomped Penn State in the '85 Orange Bowl.

mizzou would not be a good matchup for iowa.

Mizzou hasn't faced a defense as good as Iowa's all year.

You think Iowa's defense is better than Texas'?

Possibly. A lot closer than what you think, and probably better.

Iowa

PPG: 13.3

Yards P/G: 289.5

Rush Yards: 1179

Pass Yards: 2295

Ints:20

Fumbles Recovered: 7

Passing Efficiency D: 99.08

Texas

PPG: 18.6

Yards P/G: 339.9

Rush Yards: 883

Pass Yards: 3196

INTs: 6

Fumbles Recovered: 10

Passing Efficiency D: 124.88

---------

You have to factor in that Texas faced much, much better offenses in the Big 12 than Iowa did in the Big 10.

Going by total offense per game, here are the ranks in the nation:

Big 12:3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 23, 35, 42, 48, 77, 95.

Big 10: 15, 19, 33, 49, 50, 63, 67, 71, 79, 92, 111,

Texas faced the No. 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 23, 30, 40, 48, 51, 77 and 95.

Iowa faced Maine, 15, 19, 33, 42, 49, 56, 63, 67, 71, 92, 100.

There are five offenses on Texas's schedule that gained more yards per game than anyone on Iowa's schedule. Seven that are top 30 on Texas' and eight in the top 40 compared to two and three on Iowa's schedule.

Saw a few parts of Lane Kiffin's press conference today and I absolutely loved that he ripped the Raiders and called them a dysfunctional franchise. Awesome.

I like Lane even more now than I did before.

Wow before reading Meph's post, I assumed it was a foregone conclusion that if Florida beat Alabama on Saturday, they would secure one of the spots in the NC game

He took a couple of cracks at Al Davis too (without naming him of course). Hopefully he can coach as well as he gives a press conference.

Much as I hate Florida, they should make it if they win Saturday. Another reason why the BCS is an utterly laughable system.

The BCS is really a problem now because it depends far, far too much on human polls and limits computer polls from being able to effectively determine how good teams are.

and some of the computer polls are terrible

Billingsley's method is terrible, and Sagarin can't use his accurate model because it involves point differential.

I still think they should institute a point differential, but put a cap on it or something. I can fully understand the attempt to avoid promoting running up the score, but the amount Florida is beating teams by should count for something.

I can't believe I've said something good about Florida in two posts now.

Another reason the computer ratings are limited in effectiveness is that the only real factors a computer rating can use are W-L record and strength of opponent. So, if you are in a weaker conference, there's absolutely nothing you can do to improve your standing. They initially did this to prevent running up the score and with the guise of "giving everyone a chance to get into a BCS spot, regardless of conference", except that teams have no real control over whether or not they can make the BCS, because it depends largely on 7 or 8 other teams you have nothing to do with.

The only answer is a 65-team tournament in January.

It's just too bad that a 16-team playoff can't work in college football.

I've always thought they should just do the same things as the FCS. I know the whole tradition crap, but you could keep the bowls. The NIT still exists in CBB.

it'll never happen. money talks, playoffs walk

I know I'm the first person to ever say this but I don't see how playoffs+bowls would make any less money. All the playoff games would make money. They could play the games on campus and have the NCAA make revenue from each game. The revenue they would make from all the games would have to be close to what they make for the BCS games.

because there's some rule that once you institute a playoff, all money made from the playoffs gets split evenly among all 120 FBS schools. No school is going to vote in a system that compromises their "take" that much

It's not like UT is UGA, FSU or LSU either. How'd that help them?

And with this post, almost every one of you can understand why I do not root for the conference. I sincerely hope that Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship, and that they do not make the MNC game. It is my hope that Florida then gets drilled in the Sugar Bowl by their opponent, and that Texas gets slaughtered by Oklahoma (just because Meph pimps the Longhorns as well).

And for those of you who complain about the SEC and their fans, I understand why... I really do. It's fans like this. And believe me, this is TYPICAL of most Florida and Alabama fans I know. They talk an awful lot for people who don't contribute to anything that affects the game itself.

I do hope Team Jorts will beat the Criminal Tide, and then get left out of the MNC game. It doesn't matter, though, because wins and losses are irrelevant, remember?

I have no respect for any person who makes generalizes about a population of fans. It's absurdly naive and stupid. My point is that Tennessee's defense, while talented, is no more talented than Georgia's, LSUs or Florida State's and they had no prayer stopping the Gators offense. Lost in all of your blinded generalizes you missed the entire point of my post (and you do this with all of mine, you never sit there and actually look at what I said and think about it).
